Getting started on the leadership e-module At first sight, tackling the e-learning module can seem a bit confusing and daunting. However once you get the hang of it, the process is more straightforward. Let's break down the components of what you see on the screen and what actions you need to take. The complete module consists of four phases which you are asked to complete. Phase I: Strategic Capability Phase II: Strategy into Action: Leading Change Phase III: Stakeholder Management Phase IV: Sustaining Change, Module Summary and Reflections Start with Phase I - in the top left hand corner you will find a leadership situation you have been asked to tackle. Below there is a pie diagram with four segments in different colours. You are asked to split your time according to your view of the priorities you face. If you follow your eyes down the screen a bit more you will find four statements. What you need to do is to use the scroll button to indicate how much time as a percentage of the total you'll spend on each of these four - the more time you allocate, the more important that issue is. It should total 100 percent. In addition, you are able to provide some rationale to each of the time allocations you make. This is free flow text which will carry over to future screens, because in total at the end of your decisions you may well see a pattern; it will build up a picture of some of your thinking processes in arriving at your leadership decisions. You need to “Save” the text for each rationale. The text will not automatically clear but will be saved and you need to progress to the next rationale. When you are satisfied with all your time allocations and the rationales, please click the box labelled Submit in the bottom right-hand corner. To assist you in your decision making, in the top right-hand corner are additional sources of information. The first is a document on some leadership approaches which are adopted at Cranfield. In addition, another document outlines some executive business information you may find helpful in arriving at your decisions. Once you have clicked on the Submit button, you will see some generalised feedback of your results. Once you have considered this feedback, you will be ready to move on to the next Phase of the module. You will then find a similar screen to make your new decisions. Repeat the process. First, read the situation in the top left hand corner of the screen. Then move to the four statements and decide how much time you will give to each. The percentages will have carried over from the previous decision; just change them to the new percentages. Also add more comments to the ones already there to reflect the rationale behind your time allocation. When you have done this for all four statements, click Submit in the bottom right hand corner. You will then receive more feedback before you move on to the final two phases of the module.
