Complete coverage of Wake Forest soccer
DEACS VIE FOR FIRST COLLEGE CUP SINCE 2009
• Wake Forest is one victory away from reaching the College Cup for the fifth time in
program history and for the first time since the 2009 season.
• The Deacs will have to get through a tough test in No. 8 seed Stanford, a team Wake
Forest has not beat in two tries, both of which came in the early 1990s.
• In four previous appearances in the Elite Eight, Wake Forest has never lost. In those
four games against Santa Clara (‘06), Notre Dame (‘07), USF (‘08) and UCLA (‘09),
Wake Forest outscored its opponents 11-1, only allowing Santa Clara to score.
LAST TIME OUT
• For the second game in a row, Wake Forest scored with less than 10 minutes to play
to advance. This time against Indiana, Ricky Greensfelder scored in the 88th minute to
send the Deacs past the Hoosiers.
• Ian Harkes set Greensfelder up on the left side of goal. Harkes has now assisted on
each of the game-winning goals in the NCAA Championship this year.
SCOUTING THE CARDINAL
• With three College Cup appearances to date, Stanford is looking to reach its fourth
overall and first since 2002. The Cardinal is in the midst of a 16-2-2 campaign in which
it won its second-straight Pac-12 championship along the way.
• Stanford topped Santa Clara and Ohio State, each by the score of 3-1, in the
second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament to reach the Elite Eight. Saturday is
Stanford’s first road game of the tournament.
• U.S. international player Jordan Morris has scored 10 goals in 15 games for Stanford.
He scored the first two goals last weekend against Ohio State, both in the second half.
• Stanford coach Jeremy Gunn previously was at Charlotte from 2007-11. While with
the 49ers, Gunn beat Wake Forest 3-1 in 2009 and 2-0 in 2010 in his only two tries.
HARRISON UP FOR THE HERMANN TROPHY
• On Tuesday, Jack Harrison was named one of 15 finalists for the MAC Hermann
Trophy. He is the only freshman up for the award and is Wake Forest’s first semifinalist
since Ike Opara and Corben Bone reached the final 15 in 2009.
• The award is voted on by NSCAA Division I coaches. Three finalists will be named
on Friday, Dec. 11, during the College Cup with the winner being announced at a
ceremony in St. Louis, Missouri, on Jan. 8, 2016.
A CAMPAIGN FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
• With 17 wins this season, Wake Forest tied the 2009 team with its fourth-most wins
in a single season in program history.
2007: 22 wins
2008: 21 wins
2006: 18 wins
2009: 17 wins
2015: 17 wins
• This season marks the most wins since the 2009 campaign. Wake Forest hadn’t won
more than 11 games in a season since that 17-win campaign that ended in the College
Cup, the last time Wake Forest has reached the College Cup.

MEDIA POLICIES
• All media planning to attend the NCAA Championship in Winston-Salem must request a
credential from Andrew Wilson of the Wake Forest Athletic Communications Office. All approved
credentials will be left at the credential table next to the main gate and can be picked up on the
day of the game. Space in the press box at Spry Stadium is limited, but there is a row of media
seating reserved in front of the press box that runs the length of the box that will accommodate
media members.
• Postgame interviews will be held in the hospitality tent on the practice field behind the press
box. The winning head coach will have a 10-minute “cooling off” period before he and two
players enter the interview area. The losing head coach and two players will be available to
media approximately 10 minutes after the winning coach at the media’s request.

BOBBY MUUSS NAMED HEAD COACH
• Bobby Muuss was named the new head coach of
the Demon Deacons on January 8, 2015, following
the departure of Jay Vidovich, who took a position
with the USL PRO team T2, an affiliate of the Portland
Timbers.
• Muuss spent eight seasons at the University
of Denver prior to rejoining the Demon Deacons.
He served as an assistant coach and recruiting
coordinator for Wake Forest from 2001-07 before
leaving for Denver.
• At Denver, Muuss compiled a 74-56-24 record
while leading the Pioneers to back-to-back NCAA
Tournament appearances for the first time in school
history in 2013 and 2014.
A NEW LOOK FOR SPRY
• Throughout the course of the summer, Spry
Stadium, the home of the Demon Deacons,
underwent a $1 million dollar renovation.
• Improvements to the facility included the
installation of new Bermuda turf, irrigation and
drainage systems, installation of conduit for future
television and live-stream broadcasts, new fence and
windscreen surrounding the field, upgraded lighting
and new team equipment, including new field goals
and team enclosures.
the three players that led the Deacs with 6 goals
(Michael Gamble, Ricky Greensfelder and Jon Bakero).
• Michael Gamble led Wake Forest with 22 points,
posting six goals and 10 assists throughout his junior
campaign in 2014.
HARKES, GAMBLE GO TO U.S. ID CAMP
• Ian Harkes and Michael Gamble were selected to
participate in the U.S. Soccer College Identification
Training Camp in August by U.S. Under-23 head coach
Andi Herzog.
DEACS HOST WALT CHYZOWYCH
CLINIC
• Wake Forest hosted the 15th-annual Walt
Chyzowych Memorial Fund Soccer Clinic on Friday,
Aug. 21, at Spry Stadium.
• Chyzowych was the second coach in Wake Forest
history, taking over in 1986. He guided the Deacs to
their first ACC title in 1989 after Wake Forest had only
won on ACC contest prior to his arrival.
• He was known as a pioneer for American collegiate
coaches for his role in founding, organizing and
promoting the nation’s first soccer education program.
• Walt Chyzowych passed away on Sept. 2, 1994,
just one day before the start of the 1994 season.
BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION
• Last fall, the Deacs reached the 10-win mark for
the third-straight season going 10-7-2. Overall, Wake
Forest finished third in the ACC’s Atlantic Division.
