Innovative Research Activity
Preamble & Guidelines
The Innovative Research Activity is designed to encourage a creative research environment within
Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur, and to encourage synergy between disciplines and
research colleagues. The intent is to provide an uncomplicated mechanism for supporting small research
efforts that can quickly provide concept viability or rule out further consideration. The program encourages
novel, unconventional or fundamental research that might otherwise be difficult to fund. This Scheme
supports pilot or exploratory studies, which may provide rapid results. Activities are not tightly restricted and
can range from instrument development, lab testing, and field observations to model advancement
According to the National Innovation Council, innovation is being seen as a means of creating sustainable
and cost effective solutions for people at the bottom of the pyramid and as an important strategy for inclusive
growth in developing economies. The term innovation goes beyond the confines of formal research and
development (R&D) to redefine everything. Today, innovation can mean new and unique applications of old
technologies, using design to develop new products and services, new processes and structures to improve
performance in diverse areas, organizational creativity and public sector initiatives to enhance delivery of
services.
Proposals are invited for the Innovative Research Activities Scheme under the aegis of University Grants
Commission’s 12th Five Year plan.
The proposal in this scheme is required to be innovative as defined “An innovation is something original, new,
and important in whatever field that breaks in to a market or society”. Innovation is finding a better way of
doing something.
Innovation differs from invention in that innovation refers to the use of a better and, as a result, novel idea or
method, whereas invention refers more directly to the creation of the idea or method itself.
Innovation differs from improvement in that innovation refers to the notion of doing something different rather
than doing the same thing better.
Guidelines for submitting the proposal
1. Any Regular Faculty in the Department/ Conducted college of RTM Nagpur University only can submit the
proposal.
2. The Innovative research activity should be entirely different than the research covered in Minor/Major
Research Project.
3. The Head of the institution will forward the proposal after ensuring about its innovative nature of the
proposal (The committee may be formed at Institute level in the respective subjects consisting of senior
faculty, which will give its recommendations.)
4. Application to be done in prescribed proforma provided herewith.
5. Following amount will be sanctioned
a) For faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, Home Science and Medicine (including
pharmacy ) :- upto Rs.1.00 Lac
b)For faculty of Arts, Commerce, Social Science, Law and education:- upto Rs 0.50 Lac.
6. Scrutiny of received projects will be done at University level.
7. The shortlisted researchers will be asked to give presentation before the expert committee.
8. After satisfactory presentation the Funds will be disbursed as per the RTM Nagpur University norms.
9. The tenure of the project will be one year from the date of sanction.
10. The Half yearly report must be submitted along with the future planning.
11. All the guidelines of Finance Section of RTM Nagpur University are applicable.

Activity for the year 2015-2016.
Sir/Madam,
It is to inform you that, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University provides
financial support under “Innovative Research Activity” for proposals submitted by the
permanent approved teachers of University Department/Institute Conducted college/Chair and
Centers of R.T.M. Nagpur University. The Innovative Research Activity is designed to encourage
a creative research environment within Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur,
and to encourage synergy between disciplines and research colleagues. The financial assistance
will be provided faculty wise as under.
1) For faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, Home Science and Medicine (including
pharmacy )
:- upto Rs.1.00 Lac
2) For faculty of Arts, Commerce, Social Science, Law and education:- upto Rs 0.50 Lac.
The process for final selection of the research proposals would involve 2 stages.
In first stage, research proposals received in response to this invitation will be
scrutinized for the verification of attached documents. F inal selection of the Activity will be
done after evaluation of the expert committee. Where investigators are required to make a
presentation of 5-7 min. and clarify the points raised by the committee members. The final list
of the selected candidate will be published on the website of the University.
Principal Investigator should ensure to submit application for research proposal in part A
(Biodata), Part B (Budget & Research Proposal), Part-C (Declaration) by downloading the
proforma available on university website. The detail guidelines of this scheme is available on
university website www.nagpurunversity.org
You are requested to kindly bring the above facts to the notice of all your colleagues in
your department. The last date for submission of the research Proposals is 30/05/2015.
