Course Description/Objectives:






Overview: Algebra II is a preparatory course for Pre-Calculus with an emphasis on the study of
functions and their relationships.
Content: Linear, Absolute Value, Quadratic, Square Root, Polynomial, Rational, Exponential,
logarithmic and trigonometric functions and their relationships, Conics.
Instructional methods: lecture, discovery, and working in pairs or groups.
Goals: critical reading, analytical thinking, creative synthesis and problem solving, and attention to
detail regarding all Algebra topics.
Objective: preparation for TAKS, EOC and/or Pre-Calculus course.
Major work: homework, class work, quizzes, tests, final exam.

Assignments, tests, quizzes, and class participation will be factored into the students’ grades based on a
weighted point value system.

Work Habits
Students in Geometry should be aware that homework must be done every night. It is necessary for
Geometry students to reflect on what they are doing.

Notes and Warm-ups
Each student is required to take notes and do all warm ups. Notes should include chapter and section
headings, vocabulary, formulas, etc.

Homework/Class work
The assignments must be turned in at the beginning of the class on the due date. Late assignments will be
deducted 20% each day.
 All work turned in for credit must be done in pencil with all work shown.



Use proper heading (first name and last name, date, period, and assignment).
Copy problem, unless it is a word problem.
Each student is responsible for obtaining work missed when absent. If submitted in a timely manner
full credit will be earned.

Participation
Students are expected to be in class every day, on time and prepared with all necessary notes,
assignments, writing tools, etc. Students will earn points based on required materials, attendance,
tardiness, paying attention, asking and answering questions, and being actively involved in all class
activities.

Cheating
Giving or receiving information on homework, tests, or quizzes will result in zero points. In addition,
instances of cheating will be documented and put into your student record.

Retake policy:


Students will be allowed to retake exams only by appointments and on Friday between 1:30 and 3:30.
It is mandatory that the students go to a tutorial before retaking the test. Retakes will be allowed
within the week following return of the original test.
Quizzes may also be retaken for the highest grade of a 70.

Each student is expected to be on time and is in his/her seat when the bell rings. You will lose points for
each tardy.

Tutoring:
Each math teacher will hold tutorials at varied times during the week. If a student’s math teacher is not
available at a time needed, any other math teacher holding tutorials will be able to help.
