1. In leadership, power can be acquired from the person’s position and the person’s
individual qualities. Position power has been further analyzed into coercive,
connection, and legitimate power. On the other hand, the personal power can be
categorized into expert, information, and referent power.
What kind of power would the following people have:
(a) An internal auditor looking at the payroll system at Brightstar College.
(b) The principal of Brightstar College who has told staff that they must accept a new
contract of face the sack.
(c) Brigette in respect to users of the college payroll system.
2. Identify three incidents or times when you felt particularly pleased or happy about
something to do with your work or study. Identify three occasion when you were
particularly dissatisfied with your work or study.
3. A software development department wants to improve productivity by encouraging
the re-use of existing software components. It has been suggested that this could be
encouraged through financial reward. To what extent do you think this could be
done?
