A. Calculate your Assured Funds
To Request a Certificate of Eligibility Form I-20 for use in obtaining the F-1 U.S. Visa:
(a) Enter the appropriate Total Minimum Estimated Cost for your program

(b) Enter the total number of dependents for whom you will request a Form I-20
If you will not be accompanied by any dependents, then enter “0”.
(c) Multiply (b) by $9,600 and enter the figure
$
(d) Add the numbers in (a) and (c) together and enter the figure
This is the TOTAL Amount of Assured Funds you are required to provide in
order to request a Form I-20.

$800 per dependent per month X 12 months (1 year) = $9,600
NOTE: All programs are considered to be one year (12 months) for purposes of calculating
dependent costs.
To Request a Form DS-2019 Certificate of Eligibility for use in obtaining the J-1 U.S. Visa:
REMINDER: At least 51% of your total funding must come from funding sources other than personal or family/friends
to be eligible for the J-1 U.S. Visa.
