Mathematics Education Colloquium Join Us! Geometry of the Cube April 8, 2008 Room G5 at 3:00 Speaker: Clint McCrory, University of Georgia Many aspects of three-dimensional geometry can be seen by playing with cubes. The geometry of the cube is worth exploring for students at all levels -- pre-K through graduate school. I will present some surprising properties of the cube involving concepts such as section, projection, decomposition, truncation, area, volume, and symmetry, and I will share my ideas about how to teach (and how not to teach) 3D geometry. Clint’s research interests include the topology of singularity and differential geometry. In recent years, he has taught Modern Algebra and Geometry as well as the Foundations of Geometry courses here at UGA. He has also been the co-director of the NSF funded VIGRE program, and a visiting professor at Institut Henri Poincare in Paris.
