For Faculty/Staff - FY2016
The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education funding is made available to TMCC based on the Pell Grant counts for
the prior academic year, as reported by the Nevada System for Higher Education. TMCC uses the funds allocated to the
College to support Career and Technical Education programs. The funds can be used to develop new programs of study,
improve current programs, or serve special population students to complete CTE degrees or certificates.
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
The U.S. Department of Education is looking for the following deliverables resulting from the Perkins funding:
•
Expansion of the use of technology in career and technical education
•
Faculty professional development
•
Improvement in the academic and technical skills of students through the integration of academics with career and
technical education
•
Preparation for nontraditional fields in current and emerging professions and other activities that expose students
including special populations, to high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand occupations.
•
Use of Perkins funds to:
o
improve career guidance and academic counseling programs
o
establish articulation agreements between secondary and post-secondary career and technical education
o
facilitate the transition of CTE students to baccalaureate programs
o
improvement or development of new CTE courses including career clusters, career academies and distance
education
o
support entrepreneurship education and training
o
provide CTE programs for adults and school dropouts to complete secondary education
o
provide assistance to individuals who have participated in Perkins assisted services and activities in
continuing their education, training or finding a job
PROCEDURES AND DEADLINES
Please complete the application, including your Dean’s signature. Submit your completed applications to your Dean on or
before February 28, 2015 for their approval. Each Dean will be entering their approved Perkins requests in the RAP tool.
Final notification of award is expected by July 1, 2015. Applicants should retain a copy of their Perkins Grant Application for
their records.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The TMCC Grants Office encourages you to work with your Dean and colleagues to develop a request that will support
student success, increase student academic achievement, or improve technical skills attainment. For examples of
previously funded requests, please contact your Dean or the Grants Office (775-337-5650).
