Kinley Creek Monitoring Sites Data Gaps

Kinley Creek Monitoring Sites
Data Gaps
• At KINA, the turbidity probe became fouled for one period, between October 10th and October
13th; this fouling was corrected by field maintenance.
• At the KINB station, no sensor fouling incidents occurred during this deployment.
SCDHEC Standards
• The average DO value at KINA was 5.7 mg/L during this monitoring period, above the SCDHEC
daily average standard of 5 mg/L. However, the continuous 15-minute recorded DO values at
• KINA did contravene the instantaneous minimum of 4 mg/L on several occasions. It should be
noted that DO levels at KINA increased significantly following every storm event.
• The KINB station had an average DO value of 6.8 mg/L for this deployment period, well above
the 5 mg/L daily average limit set by SCDHEC. The continuous data had a minimum of 4.6
mg/L, which is also above the 4 mg/L instantaneous DO limit.
• The pH standards were not contravened at either site during this monitoring period.
Storm Events
• The KIN rain gage recorded 5 storm events during this monitoring period.
• The most significant rain event during this deployment period occurred on October 15th, when
1.2 inches of rain were recorded at the KIN rain gage.
Potential Illicit Discharges
• At KINB, several potential illicit discharge events were noted:
o On September 27th, from 3pm-6pm, the conductivity and pH in the stream increased
slightly.
o On October 6th, between the hours of 4pm and 10pm, the turbidity in Kinley Creek
increased to a level of 26 NTU. No other monitored water quality parameters were
affected.
o Several other small illicit discharge events were noted at the KINB site, occurring on
October 7th, 11th, 17th, and 18th.
