GUIDANCE ON GRIDDABLES
Griddable Answer Type– numeric answers that are gridded on the answer document.
Griddables are
open ended responses that are automatically graded through scantron or online testing.
Under the Type column, choose “Griddable”:
a. When entering the answers in the text box note the following:
 Whole Numbers – enter the whole number, if more columns are desired but a “0” in front of
the number. Example: See question #1 below (132 for 3 columns, 0132 for 4 columns)
 Floating Decimal – Use the “+” sign in front of a whole number. This creates a floating decimal
with eight columns. (See question #2 below)
 Anchored Decimal – Enter whole number, decimal point and tenths and hundredth values
(See questions #3 & #4 below). Any number with 3 or more decimal places will automatically
become a floating decimal. (See question #5 below)
 Anchored Decimal with -/+ Enter a positive or negative and 2 digits after the decimal point
to produce the STAAR middle school griddable. (See question #6 below)
