PEACEBUILDING CALL FOR PAPERS Editors Roger Mac Ginty and Oliver P. Richmond University of Manchester, UK New Journal for 2013 From the first issue in 2013, Peacebuilding will be an international, comparative, multidisciplinary journal open to articles on contemporary and historical cases. It will aim to provide in-depth analyses of the ideologies, philosophies, interests, and policies that underpin peacebuilding programmes and initiatives, and to connect with debates being held by policymakers, civil society personnel, scholars and students. The journal will be open to quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and will particularly welcome submissions that are prepared to challenge orthodox views and add new empirical insights into debates. Peacebuilding will be particularly interested in contributions from the ‘subjects’ of peacebuilding, as well as theoretical and methodological innovations. One of the themes the editors are interested in is how the current peacebuilding paradigm produces political subjectivity, and how this is responded to by the recipients of peacebuilding operations. Rethinking both western/liberal and local/context approaches to peacebuilding is particularly crucial if this area of study is to move beyond its current situation. In addition to publishing original research articles, the editors invite proposals for integrative review essays or symposia on specific research areas. The editors also seek proposals to promote discussion among scholars on innovative topics or projects. These discussions might take several forms, including but not limited to (1) a set of pieces tackling a common question or debate, (2) a research article with several responses and a rejoinder, (3) “thought” pieces with responses from a variety of perspectives, and (4) research workshops in which novel methodologies or analytical approaches are presented and critiqued. The journal will also periodically include reports on the work of major donors and the Peacebuilding Commission, or other notable organisations in the field. It is our intention for the Journal to become a high quality ‘go to’ resource for the study of peace and conflict.
