MUSIC GROCERY CARD FUNDRAISER

MUSIC FESTIVAL TRIPs 2013!!!!!

OBA/Wonderland/Orlando

Loblaw/Fortinos/No Frills/Value Mart/Zehr’s/Canadian Superstore

$$$$$$ November 1st through January only $$$$$$

To All Junior and Senior Band Students, Parents, Teachers and music friends:

Welcome to our most successful fundraiser!! The following information is provided to you in order to make it quite possible to fully raise the entire cost of the planned Music trips in February (OBA Regional Competition) and May

2013 Orlando, Florida with minimal effort. Here’s how it works.

STEP 1: Send the money in the sealed envelop with your son or daughter to school to see Mrs. Tomczyk at

8:00-8:15 (before school) in room 112 or fill out an Activity Payment Form (CREDIT/DEBIT

FORM- copies in music room) and send it with your child to main office secretary.

Gift cards come in two denominations: $100.00. You may order/purchase any number of cards.

Give us the money ($100.00 cash/debit only, no cheques) and you will receive exactly the same value back in swipe cards. Everybody buys groceries right? There is nothing to lose or waste.

STEP 2: You may have your teachers and friends who are not in music buying the cards too. They should follow

STEP 1 but also should tell Mrs. Tomczyk the name of a music student they want the profit to go to. We have the list of everyone’s name and will put the dollar value profit next to his or her name.

STEP 3: Go do your grocery shopping in the store of your choice! (Loblaws, Super store, Fortinos, No Frills, Value

Mart or Zehr’s are participating). When you get to the cashier, give them the gift card. The cashier will scan this card and take off the value of the groceries you purchased. The card will keep the remaining value on it. For example, if you had a $100.00 card and your bill came to $50.00, the card will have $50.00 remaining on it for the next time you go grocery shopping. Card is valid for 2 years so you may stock up.

Until January or until supplies last.

Pretty simple so far!! So how does this work as a fundraiser??

Loblaws/Super Store/Fortinos/No Frills/Value Mart and Zehr’s will donate 5% of all gift cards purchased. =$5.00 for each

$100.00 card purchased. It will apply directly against the cost of your son/daughter’s music trip/festival.

THE MATH: Let’s assume that your family’s typical grocery bill is $100.00/week (yes, this is low for many families, but it makes for easy math.)

If you purchased $100.00 of swipe card each week, this means that $5.00 would be raised for your son or daughter’s trip.

Now that doesn’t sound like a lot………… BUT!!!!!!

What we ask everyone involved to do is, to find a total of 5 or more families to be involved.

These other families could be your friends, neighbours, relatives, co-workers……anyone. And count your own family as one of the 5 families!

Basically, anyone who goes shopping at either of the above listed stores can do this. The nicest thing is that it costs them absolutely nothing…other than arranging for you to come to purchase these cards. And do not forget, they get the exact same value of the card back for the money they hand in. There is absolutely no dollar cost to participants!!

Getting back to Math!!

If a total of 5 families are involved (based on a $100.00 grocery bill each), this means that your son or daughter will be getting 5 x $5.00 = $25.00 per week towards their trip.

$25.00 week x 9 weeks Nov & Dec) is $225.00

But if 10 families are involved every week, then: 10 x $5.00 = $50.00/week

$50.00/week x 6 weeks (Nov. & Dec.) is $300.00

At $300.00 a significant portion of the trip cost would be taken care of. And remember, this math is only based on a family having a $100.00 grocery bill. You may think $200.00 is more typical. You may even stock up on

much more for future. They are valid for 2 years. If so, double or triple your fundraising as well, i.e., through this program you would raise a lot of money for your son or daughter. It might even cover the cost of the trip and some spending money. The more families you involve, the bigger profit every week your child gets.

Here are some frequently asked questions: Please read them carefully!!!!

1.

When does this start?

It is on right now. It started Nov 1 st

. It will end in January with the last card sold.

2.

When purchasing the cards, can I use a cheque?

NO. We can only handle cash/debit/credit in the main office. It is school policy.

3.

Is it just Loblaws, Fortinos, No Frills, Zehr’s here in

Brampton?

NO. Actually, the Gift cards are good at any of these stores across the country. Many people buy swipe cards on behalf of other people (sons or daughters in universities).

4.

Do these cards have an expiry date?

Yes. The swipe cards must be used within 2-year period.

5.

Are these swipe cards basically like cash then? What happens if I lose them?

Yes, they are like cash. You don’t want to loose them.

6.

Can anyone go to Music Room 112 at 8:00- 8:15 AM and buy the swipe cards so that my son/daughter can get the credit?

Yes. Anyone can. All they have to remember to do is to say your son’s or daughter’s name for them to get the profit.

7.

Can I buy larger quantities of swipe cards and then distribute them to my co-workers and just get them to pay me back? (That way I’ll know my son or daughter will get the credit, and it will save them an effort of having to come to school.)

Yes, you can. No problem at all here. You would just have to give me few days warning to order more cards.

8.

This sounds like a great fundraiser. Can more than 5 families be involved?

Yes. There is no limit here at all. We just used the number 5 to help you understand the math. Many families have more that 5 people helping out. Just make sure these helpful persons say your son’s or daughter’s name at the time of purchase of these cards.

9.

My place of business usually gives out a Christmas bonus, and might consider these swipe cards as a possible gift. If I set this up, would my son or daughter get the credit?

Yes. We have a number of businesses that think these cards are a great idea for their employees as a Christmas bonus. We would then work closely with the owner of the company to make the necessary arrangements, but your son or daughter will get the credit. For this effort, other denominations ($25 or $50) are also available.

This program is also open to other company organization such as unions who may also do the same thing for their membership. Last day for me to order new cards is December 17 th.

After they are all gone, you would have to wait till next November.

10.

What if I raise more than the cost of the trip?

The trip does have other costs naturally associated with it such as spending money and food. Funds raised over and above the cost of the trip will be given to the student closer to the day of the trip or held for the other trip she/he will be required to pay for..

VERY IMPORTANT: Try as we might to keep on top of the flow of Gift cards through the music department, some factors are beyond our control. For example, if someone walks in and purchases a large quantity, we may suddenly find ourselves short. You may be the next person to walk into the school looking for Gift cards, and are told that we do not have any left. It is really a “luck of the draw” situation, and we’ll hopefully have the cards back there within 48 hours. If you are looking to purchase a larger quantity, it is always best to preorder those few days in advance. Simply send a note with your son or daughter and the number of cards you will require with the money. Last day for me to order new cards is December 17 th.

After they are all gone, you would have to wait till next November.

Further questions? Please call Mrs. Tomczyk at the school or pass a note through your child to me.
