Lecture 10: Rigid Body Physics – Review Questions • Draw a block diagram of a system for simulating the motion of a particle moving freely in space while subjected to external forces. Use the equations of motion for a particle (f=ma). Consider the questions of how you will represent particle state, how you will integrate motion forward in time, and how you will display the results. • What is Euler integration? Illustrate with an equation. • Assume frictionless motion along the roller coaster track under the influence of gravity. Show that we can obtain velocity for a particle traveling along the track using the principle of conservation of energy. • Knowing the velocity of the particle on the roller coaster track gives us distance traveled over a small timestep. How do we compute this distance traveled to a change in the parameter u with which the roller coaster curve is parameterized? • What is Simpson integration? What are the advantages of Simpson integration over Euler integration?
