NEWS REPORT ASSIGNMENT On Fridays, one person or a pair will report to the class on an issue affecting the world. The story may be local, national, or international, but it must connect to the world. You must use several newspaper articles that cover the same story, such as The Star, The Globe and Mail, The National Post or websites like cnn.com, cbc.ca. Note that if you do not receive newspapers, there are copies available in St. Roch’s library everyday. FOR EACH ISSUE: - Pick an issue that is of significant global interest now. i.e. it must be a current event - Begin to research about 1-2 weeks before your presentation by collecting information. - Identify the geographic location using a map - Use the ‘Report Outline’ (below) to summarize your information. You will hand this in. PRESENTATION: VERBAL PRESENTATION If alone, 10 min max presentation/discussion. If in pairs, 15 min (10 min/ea. max). Summarize your story – significance, opposing viewpoints. Include a map in your presentation. Why is it a world issue? What can we do? Involve the class: handouts, questions, discussion games, etc. Ensure that your discussion is organized and creative.
