Small Director: Assessment Contact(s) (if not the director): The mission of University Career Services (UCS) is to serve University of Houston students and alumni at all stages of career development. UCS promotes and encourages personal responsibility in the exploration and achievement of both career and employment goals. UCS actively creates relationships with campus and Department Mission Statement: community entities that will help to ensure the success of UH job candidates during and after their college careers at the University of Houston. University Career Services will be recognized as the “Destination of Choice” at the University of Houston for students who are making academic major and career decisions, for UH alumni who are Department Vision Statement: considering career changes, and for employers who are seeking highly qualified job candidates. 1. Assist students in achieving a clear understanding and clarification of their interests, skills, and values in relationship to their choice of major and career direction. Department Goals: 2. Assist students in understanding the relative value of various sources of job and internship opportunities, including UCS resources, internet sites, career fairs, campus recruitment, job posting sites, professional conferences, employment agencies, the use of professional networks, and print media. 3. Provide a campus-based service where students can meet with and discuss specific career opportunities with representatives of local, national, and global industries, non-profits, educational agencies, and governmental organizations, and, where mutual interests exist, receive offers of employment. 1 DSA Assessment Plan Program or Service Being Assessed: Career Counseling Method Timeline (Month) Frequency Purpose Goal(s) Supported Learning Outcome(s) and/or Program Objective(s) As a result of career counseling, students will have a clearer understanding and greater clarification of their interests, skills, and values in relationship to their choice of major and career direction. 1. An intake checklist is completed by each student, indicating one or more career topics of interest. 2. A corresponding follow-up questionnaire is emailed to each student following the counseling/ workshop session with questions designed to assess learning outcomes . The follow-up December and May questionnaire is sent annually. via email within one day of the conclusion of each individual career counseling and workshop session 2 To determine the degree to which students perceive that they have achieved a clearer understanding of their own interests, skills, and values in relationship to career decision-making. DSA Assessment Plan Program or Service Being Assessed: Job Search Counseling Method Timeline (Month) Frequency Purpose Goal(s) Supported Learning Outcome(s) and/or Program Objective(s) Students will be better informed as to the sources of job and internship opportunities, including UCS resources, internet sites, career fairs, professional conferences, employment agencies, print media, and networking in a professional job search. In addition, they will be more knowledgeable in resume writing and in the application of effective interview skills. 1. DSA Assessment Plan Program or Services Being Assessed: Campus Recruitment Method Timeline (Month) Frequency Purpose Goal(s) Supported Learning Outcome(s) and/or Program Objective(s) Students will understand the benefits of participating in oncampus interviews vs the challenges of generating interviews in the larger community; students will learn how to utilize and prepare for campus interviews. A questionnaire will be emailed at semester’s end to each student who participated in campus interviews. Queries will gauge student perception as to the value of campus interviews; the process of navigating the campus recruitment system, student preparedness, and what students learned that might be applied in future job searches and possible career changes. Data collection will December and May occur twice per year annually. between the end of the campus interview cycle and the beginning of final exams in December and May. 4 To determine what students learn from interacting with corporate recruiters; to assess student experiences in navigating the campus recruitment system; to assess what students learned in preparation for campus interviews; to invite student comments as to the future value of the campus recruitment experience.
