Postgraduate Research Opportunity
Young Farmer Innovation Practices for
Agricultural and Rural Development
Applications are invited from candidates for the above 4 year UCD-Teagasc
collaborative research project. The research is funded through the Teagasc Walsh
Fellowship Scheme and scheduled to begin September 2010. Candidates will have, or
expect to obtain by end of 2010, a Masters degree in agriculture, economics,
management, agribusiness, commerce, rural development or sociology.
The research project will examine farm-based innovation among young farmers in
Ireland. It will also examine the factors that influence innovation by these farmers
within a context of public policy supports to multifunctional agriculture. The project
aims to map out the innovation system that exists for Irish farm households and make
a comparison between Ireland’s institutional arrangements for supporting farm-based
innovation and those in place in other EU countries.
The successful candidate will join the Agribusiness and Rural Development Section
in the School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine, UCD where
he/she will be expected to register for a PhD degree. During the course of the project
the researcher will be based at the Teagasc Rural Economy Research Centre, Athenry
and for periods of time at University College Dublin.
The value of the Walsh Fellowship is €21,000 per annum (including fees),
payable for a maximum of 4 years.
Interested candidates should forward curriculum vitae (including contact details for at
