Make a good impression • Remember that you are representing yourself & Brandeis as you become part of your organization’s team • Behave and speak professionally at all times; dress respectfully • Use email/internet & cell phone for work purposes only while “on duty” 2. Embrace the grunt work • Not all work is glamorous all of the time - think big picture & consider your impact on your organization/project/team 3. Ask for things to do • Supervisors may not be aware of how quickly you can complete work • Propose project ideas & ask for advice about ways to contribute – Shows initiative, willingness, & work ethic Top Ten Tips 4. Get in the loop • Ask questions - be curious • Ask to attend meetings & events • Learn the lingo & read the literature (publications, manuals, journals) 5. Reflect on your match with the industry • Is this a good fit with my skills, interests & values? Can I see myself in an organization like this? Is the culture right for me? Do I enjoy the major tasks? 9. Reflect on your experience • Keep track of impressions, accomplishments, frustrations, ideas, etc. • Create thoughtful written pieces for your Brandeis blog & program sponsor 10.
