SNC 1D1: ARTICLE ASSIGNMENT
Humans understand the world today through studying science. Science is a dynamic field where new jobs are
always being created and methods of exploring are changing as the needs of our population grow and as
technology advances.
ASSIGNMENT TASK: Students are required to find an article from ONE OF THE FOLLOWING SOURCES BELOW
and share the details of the topic/findings with the class. Classmates and the teacher will have the
opportunity to ask the presenter questions at the end of the presentation.
1. www.nature.com
2. www.newscientist.com
3. www.sciencemag.org
Things to Keep in Mind:
 You have been assigned a presentation date below. You must remember this date! (Highlight it in your
agenda**).
 You will lose 5% per day for being late. If you do not present by the end of your assigned week, you
will receive the mark of ZERO.
 You are to summarize your article in our OWN words to the class. DO NOT read the article to the class.
Your main goal here is to explain the scientific method that was followed by the researchers. (ie: What
was their hypothesis? What control variables did they use? What data did they collect and how did they
analyze it? What were their conclusions?)
 After your article summary, add any of the following to your presentation if they are relevant: how this
article relates to Canadians, why this type of scientific research is being done, how this research might
affect youth, or your future.
 Be creative! In order to receive a 3+ and above on this assignment you must be engaging, interesting,
and authentic. Watch your timing! Your presentation should not exceed 5 minutes.
