Spring 2016 Dear Calculus Teachers: I am looking forward to our week together, an intensive week of calculus review, sharing of teaching ideas and materials and discussion of issues related to the teaching of AP Calculus including the AP exam. To assist in making this week a success, please consider bringing the following with you: 1. 2. 3. Your calculus textbook. Any special materials/worksheets, etc. which you feel are especially helpful and worthy of sharing with the group. A graphing calculator of your choice and support materials. I will be using Texas Instruments calculators, the TI-84 and the TI-89, for demonstration purposes. Additionally, I plan to arrange for you to have access to TI-89s for the week through TI’s workshop loan, if you are interested. If you have only a few of the above items available to bring, just bring whatever you have and would want as a reference throughout the Institute week. In particular, it would be most helpful to have your calculus text for cross-referencing with the content and pacing discussions held during the week. You will receive a notebook of materials in which you may want to add additional pages of your own notes and cross-referencing; thus, bring 3-ring notebook paper. Please complete the attached survey and bring it to class the first day. Your survey information will help me focus on your school setting, your teaching experience and your needs and concerns. I intend to stay at a motel near campus, and I look forward to extended discussions and socialization with those of you who are also nearby. Certainly, for all of you, I enjoy the rich conversations we can also share over lunch each day should you be interested. Bring comfortable, casual clothes, an umbrella (it always rains if you don't), perhaps a sweater if you freeze in air conditioning and some walking shoes. I look forward to seeing you very soon. Sincerely, Benita Albert Calculus Instructor CALCULUS INSTITUTE SURVEY Calculus AB for Experienced Teachers Please complete and bring to our first class meeting.
