CHC 2D1 – Grade 10 Academic Canadian History Culminating Speech (10%) Personal Perspectives: “As I Saw It” Using the research you have conducted over the course of the semester, you will present your Essay Thesis and your findings in a creative, dramatic presentation from the perspective of someone who was intimately connected to your subject matter. You will be responsible for creating an entertaining 3-5 minute monologue that will outline what you have learned though the writing of your term essay. Your speech must show that you understand the event, feelings and views that were experienced by that individual from that time. Moreover, you must explain why this event is important in the development of our country. Remember, you are not merely creating a narrative or summary of your essay! What you choose to discuss and how you decide to present that information is entirely up to you. You have a lot of freedom with this project, and ALL of your research is already complete, so BE CREATIVE! You will be required to hand in a transcript of your speech. Your speech must be between 3 and 5 minutes long, and you must do you best to get into character. Costumes, props, artifacts and proper language conventions will all be considered in your final grade. You are encouraged to use accents/voices, music or sound effects in order to enhance the dramatic component of your presentation. You will be evaluated on your ability to convincingly portray your subject and your skill in conveying to your audience the content of your essay (SEE RUBRIC FOR EVALUATION CRITERIA). DO NOT merely read off of your script during your presentation! Students are permitted to present their monologue on a video recording, however be sure to have a back-up plan in the event that the chosen format of your presentation is not compatible with the available technology in your classroom… Your speech will be scheduled during the culminating task period. Students who miss their scheduled presentation date during the culminating period will receive a mark of “zero”.
