Call for Papers We invite all scholars exploring the role of anthropology or allied social science disciplines in shaping law and public policy to participate in a one-day conference at Brandeis University. As our university community celebrates the centennial of the nomination of our namesake as the U.S. Supreme Court’s first Jewish justice, we wish to consider themes central to Brandeis’s legal and social ideals. In the spirit of the “Brandeis brief” combining empirical research with ethically guided jurisprudence, panels will consider the prospects for applying social scientific findings to the pursuit of social justice via legal and non-governmental institutions. Proposals taking a broadly defined approach to both “anthropology” and the “social good” are encouraged. Please consider submitting an abstract of no more than 250 words to anthlaw2016@brandeis.edu. Paper presentations should be approximately twenty minutes in length, and submissions will be accepted until Thursday, March 31, 2016. More information is available at www.brandeis.edu/departments/anthro/cfp.html. Feel free to contact Doug Bafford, bafford@brandeis.edu, with any questions.
