B) Guest Speaker – Trustee Anna DaSilva

Mrs. DaSilva distributed the 2012-13 Director’s Annual Report to all in attendance
•
Mrs. DaSilva reported on various subjects such as EQAO results, the Global Learning
Centre at St. James (International Baccalaureate program), Full day Kindergarten
capacity levels, capital projects and Technology advances.
C) Business Arising Out of Previous Meeting – Halloween Dance-a-Thon
 Mrs. Belsito reported fundraiser money is coming in very slowly and we will give a few
days grace (until Wednesday October 29th) for fundraiser money to be submitted.
 Mrs. Belsito said they will count the money raised on Friday October 24th in the
morning at the school, and throughout the week until Wednesday October 29th.
 Decorating the gym will take place Thursday October 20th starting at 7 p.m.

Prizes: Mrs. Belsito said some donations have arrived, but we could still use some
sports items (basketballs, volleyballs etc.) and the top class prizes are still to be
purchased ($20 gift card for each class).
Mr. Birkenbergs reported the DJ is booked and suggested that if this DJ works out
well we consider him for the Grade 8 graduation (which will take place on the last
Tuesday of the school year).
D) Treasurer’s Report
• Our current School Council balance is $321.25.
• Agendas, PALS and Grade 8 graduation will be removed from the allocated funds list
and we will decide where to allocate funds at the November meeting once all
fundraiser money is counted.
E) Fundraising
 A short discussion was held with respect to the possibility of a Chocolates fundraiser
in the spring. Further discussion on future fundraising was deferred to November
meeting.
F) Committees
 Training for Catholic School Council Executive Members will take place on Saturday
November 1, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Joseph S.S.

G) Information:
Principals Report
 Mr. Birkenbergs reported the School Generated Funds Plan includes funds generated
by: 1) Fundraisers 2) Pizza and Milk 3) Photography. Any money the school makes
has to be planned. Mr. Birkenbergs shared the School Generated Funds Plan and
Projected Expenses
o Mr. Birkenbergs asked the council to settle the budget at the November
meeting and said the figures for Projected Expenses may change as a result
of our budget.
o Mrs. Belsito asked about money for the open house (catered BBQ) next school
year. Mr. Birkenbergs said he hopes to get the caterers to waive the fee to the
school.
 Mr. Birkenbergs said the CSC has the opportunity to join in on a webinar about Catholic
School councils – roles and responsibilities. Webinar will be held on October 29th from

 Mr. Birkenbergs said Loyola Catholic S.S. is hosting a mental health session on
November 10th at 7 p.m. Speaker is Dan McGann, topic is Adolescent Mental Health
& Surviving the Teen Years. No RSVP required.
 Our choir will sing the Canadian and U.S. National anthems on March 27th at 7 p.m. at
the Powerade Centre for the Brampton Beast v. Rapid City Rush game. Tickets are
$13.95 + HST. We can use this event as a fundraiser and sell tickets for up to $27.95
+ HST, or we can leave this as a parent engagement tool.
 Father C.W. Sullivan 40th Anniversary event: May 7th had to be reconsidered, so the
tentative date for the event is May 6th. Mr. Birkenbergs reported he is looking at spirit
wear for the school and he distributed the mock-up of the spirit wear. CSC agreed
Harp be awarded to make our spirit wear. Miss. McNamara suggested bringing in a
mannequin to display the spirit wear on parent/teacher interview night.
 Athletics: Mr. Birkenbergs reported there is a student contest running to develop a logo
for the Father C.W. Sullivan Saints and each student can have 2 logo submissions.
 Mr. Birkenbergs reports that the line painting will take place on the newly paved portion
of the school play area in the spring. Once complete the other portion of the school
play areas will be considered for re-paving.
Parish News:
 Grades 2 and 8 sacramental registrations are now closed. For children who have
missed the Grade 2 sacrament of First Communion it is best to wait until Grade 8 and
have both First Communion and Confirmation performed at the same time. Parent
should let the school know of their plans to have their child receive both sacraments
in Grade 8.
