The fellowship programme provides mid-career
government officials from developing countries
with the opportunity to undertake advanced
academic training and an internship period at the
United Nations with the purpose of enhancing
their countries' capacity to implement the 1982
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea
and related international instruments.
The
programme is funded by the Nippon Foundation
of Japan. Research Fellows at NUI Galway are
jointly supervised by Professor Long and Dr.
François Napoléon Bailet.
