In this lab you will use the Homework Help website (homeworkhelp.ilc.org) to review and learn about
solving equations. Then you will access the online portion of the course at dpcdsb.elearningontario.ca to
read and review material on polynomials and solving equations.
Part A:
1. Log in to homewokhelp.ilc.org.
2. There are three sections along the left menu bar: Best Sessions, Interactive Tutorials, and Listen &
Learn. Find lessons in these sections that have to do with ‘powers’ and ‘exponents’. Review the lessons
and take any notes you feel are appropriate.
3. Preview the lessons and tutorials on solving equations. Watch the lessons and take any notes you feel
are appropriate.
Part B:
1. Log in to dpcdsb.elearningontario.ca using your student number and ‘changeme’ as the password (if
you have not changed it yet).
2. Go through Unit 2: Algebra. Some of the material we have seen in class already and some is new.
Review the unit, go through the content and at complete any quizzes and tests you find.
Part C:
1. If there is time remaining explore the concept of mathematical proofs. What does it mean to
mathematically ‘prove’ a statement? How would you prove the statement: ‘If p2 is even, then p must be
even’?
