NEW ZEALAND MEAT AND WOOL EXPORT SUMMARY
LAMB & MUTTON IMPORTS
***This report will be discontinued May 1, 2010***
LAMB: Despite the per capita global lamb consumption being down, total volumes consumed
have not declined. The growing population and a reducing global sheep flock are driving a
rise in lamb prices in most markets. The European lambing season has been hindered by the
cold winter and spring, leaving a shortage of early domestic supply and a corresponding lift
in domestic pricing. This will have assisted the Easter trade of NZ lamb where initial
reports are of a reasonable trading period. Schedules across the country are steady this
week with a 17.5kg lamb priced at $4.20/kg to $4.70/kg.
