NATIONAL WOOL REVIEW
MOUNTAIN AREAS AND WESTERN UNITED STATES DIRECT SHEEP
Receipts: 8700
Last Week: 2800
Last Year: 0
Compared to last week: California springer lambs have been trading steady to weak. Slaughter ewes are trading
mostly steady compared to the most recent trades. Concerns about how the fat lamb market will react after Easter
are beginning to surface. Lamb feeders are beginning to pull their reins in as a result. Moderate temperature in
Colorado coupled with favorable ship weights out of the Imperial is fermenting growing concerns about fat lamb
weights in Colorado. Some of the Imperials are gaining more than three quarters of a pound a day. If the industry
does not stay on top of them they will have a big risk of having overweight lambs in Jun and Jul. Demand moderate
and trade activity is slow.
SOUTH CENTRAL DIRECT SHEEP
Feeder Lambs: Trading at a standstill, demand moderate. Supplies remain limited. TX: None. Slaughter Lambs:
TX: None. Slaughter Ewes: TX: None. Replacement Ewes: TX: None.

Domestic wool trading on a clean basis was at a slow this week. There were 322,000 lbs of
confirmed trades this week. Demand moderate. With the different weather patterns in February and
March it has pushed shearing schedules back as much as 2-3 weeks. With the lack luster market in
Australia and the stronger currency it is becoming tough for the domestic wool buyers to procure
clips at price levels that growers are willing to sell at. Currently wools are between 70-80
percent of Australia. Domestic clean wool and confirmed trades are reported on a weighted average
basis. Prices reflect trades FOB warehouse in original bag or square pack, bellies out, some
graded, and 76 mm or longer. No allowance made for coring, freight or handling fees at the
warehouse level to reflect net grower prices (*) indicates new prices this week. (NA) represents
microns not normally available in this region. Wools shorter than 75 mm typically discounted .10.20 clean. Classed and skirted wools usually trade at a .10-.20 premium to original bag prices.
