As you know, I announced on Friday that I will be leaving Bassett to take the
position of Curriculum Director for Avon Local Schools, effective August 1. I
realize this news came as a surprise to you. I feel this new position is what is
best for me professionally at this time, as well as what is best for my family.

Hats on for History - Friday
Wear a hat in school on Friday May 23 for a $1 donation to
help Bassett buy a spot on the new Westlake version of
Monopoly. Click here for the flyer.
Westlake-opoly is a fund raiser of the Westlake Historical
Society for the restoration of the historic Lily Weston
House near Westlake Recreation Center. We need to raise
$200 to buy a spot on the game board. Extra money collected will be
donated to help the Westlake Historical Society with this project. Westlakeopoly will be for sale later this year.

Thanks so much to the many parent volunteers who made 4th Grade Inquiry
Day possible. Additionally, we had a great group of high school seniors who
were very helpful, and made the day a lot of fun. What a fantastic event,
demonstrating how the kids can extend all that they learn through hands-on
activities!

MARKET DAY
Orders are due!

Place your order online at marketday.com by 11:00 pm on Tuesday,
May 20.

Pick-up is Saturday, May 24 from 9:30-10:15 am. If you have a
conflict with the pick-up time (especially because of sports
schedules), please let us know and we will work something out.

If you pay online, there is no need to get out of your car at pick-up!
Simply pull up to the door and we will bring out your order.

Stock up on cookie dough! There are a variety of flavors available:
chocolate chunk, M&M, s'more, chocolate mint chip, sugar free
chocolate chip, lemon, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, cranberry
orange oatmeal, and snickerdoodle. The more cookie dough you
buy, the more you save!


School Counselors are sponsoring upcoming programs
about internet safety. These proactive programs will
help students and parents learn more about safety on the internet, cell
phones and other devices that access the internet.


KIT SALE
Coming Soon!
Let us do the back-to-school shopping for
you! Bassett PTA will be offering school
supply kits for purchase for students returning
to Bassett for 2014-15.
The kits contain high quality products specified by the Bassett teachers. The
supplies come in a sturdy box with personalized labels. The kits will be
available for pick-up in August on the day class lists are posted.

GARDEN CLUB
Plant Your Pod Day
The rescheduled Plant Your Pod
Day for 3rd & 4th Grade is
Wednesday, May 21, 2:30-3:45 pm.
We will meet in Mrs. Lozada's
classroom and then head out to the
garden. Each child will need gardening gloves (labeled), a small shovel
(labeled), and a peanut-free snack & drink. Please have your child dress
accordingly -- we will get messy! Adult family members are encouraged to
join us. The permission slip is here.

Bassett Garden Club Cook Book is underway! Please share a recipe using
an herb or vegetable from our garden list. The form for sharing your recipe
and the garden list are available at the front of the school, in the classrooms,

are looking for parent volunteers to make this event special
for our children. The day is divided into shifts as follows:

20/20 VISION COMMITTEE
Discussion of Phase II
Come be a part of the dialogue on the future of Westlake's school
facilities. Westlake City School District has started up the 20/20 committee
again for planning Phase II of the Master Facilities Plan.
Phase II will address the elementary schools and Parkside building.
Discussion points will be the number of elementary schools needed and
neighborhood schools v. grade level schools.
Upcoming Meeting - May 21
The community is invited to attend a meeting of the 20/20 Committee
on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:00 pm at Lee Burneson Middle School
cafeteria.
WESTLAKE PARKS & RECREATION
SURVEY
The City of Westlake is in the process of developing a Master Plan to plan for
the future of parks and recreation opportunities in Westlake. You can help
the city determine the facilities, programs, services, events, and
improvements that are needed by taking a short survey.
