KEY COMMUNIQUE E-NEWSLETTER The October 18 edition of the Westlake City Schools' Key Communique enewsletter is available here. Read the Key Communique for important district updates! PHASE II MASTER FACILITIES UPDATE MEETING October 23, 6:30pm, Parkside auditorium In 2009, the Westlake City School District convened the first meeting of the 20/20 Vision Committee to compile data, seek feedback, develop options and prepare a master facilities plan to address our aging and overcrowded school buildings. In 2010, the district successfully passed a Phase I bond issue that resulted in the new Westlake High School, the new Lee Burneson Middle School and a renovated middle school that now serves as Dover Intermediate School. That original plan included a Phase II component that directly addressed the district's four elementary buildings. At the time the 20/20 Vision Committee suggested that the district reconvene the group after Phase I was completed and revisit the options for Phase II. We are inviting all community members to attend a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 pm at the Parkside auditorium, 24525 Hilliard Blvd. Representatives from Lesko Architects and school officials will review the previous work of the 20/20 Vision Committee, as well as review a recent feasibility study of our properties. If you would please email Bonvissuto@wlake.org or call (440) 250-1258 to let us know of your interest, we would appreciate it. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Oct. 23. ENTEROVIRUS D68 (EV-D68) Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) is a fast-spreading virus impacting children across the country. While most viral infections start out with a fever, cough and runny nose, EV-D68 presents with a cough and trouble breathing, sometimes with wheezing. The typical enterovirus season runs from July through October. According to the CDC, recent cases have been diagnosed in children ages 6 months to 16 years, with most cases in children between the ages of 4 and 5. The virus is particularly problematic for children with a history of breathing problems, like asthma. The Westlake Schools offers a School Health website that offers several resources from the CDC on EV-D68, including a fact sheet and links to additional information on the virus.
