MAP Assessments start this week Beginning this week, students will be taking their Winter Benchmark MAP Assessments (Measures of Academic Progress). These assessments will be used to show where your child is in relation to their learning in reading and mathematics. The assessments will be completed by January 9, 2015. Monday, Dec. 15: Math Club starts Jan. 8 6:00 pm: Board of Education meeting (Admin. Building) Bassett's new Math Club for students in grades 1-4 will meet on Thursdays from 2:20-3:20 pm beginning January 8, 2015. The club will be run by Mrs. Kowalski and staff from each grade level, with assistance from parent volunteers. Wednesday, Dec. 17: 1:00 & 7:00 pm: 2nd grade performs "The Nutcracker Suite" Friday, Dec. 19: Last day of school before Winter Break Math Club participants will engage in Math Pentathlon games that teach math skills and logical thinking. Kids gain confidence with math concepts in a friendly, social atmosphere. Games are aligned to math topics at each grade level. The games are fun for students whether they love math already or struggle a bit and would like to be more confident. Cold & Flu Season Letter Last week our mid-week Blast included a letter from our school nurse, Mrs. Detwiler, that addressed ways in which we can work to keep our children well during the cold & flu season, such as when to keep children home from school, when to seek medical advice, and when to allow them to return to school. Do you know someone at Bassett Elementary School who has given outstanding service to children and youth? If you answered "YES" to any of these questions, then it's time to nominate that deserving individual for a Founders Day Award. Phase II Facilities Survey The Westlake City School District is conducting a survey regarding Phase II of its Master Facilities Plan that addresses our elementary buildings. We are asking for community and parent input into what they want their elementary buildings to look like in the future.
