Submit student input by Tuesday
Click here to view my message from last week about submitting input
regarding your child's class placement for next year. If you wish to
submit input, please send me an email at fleming@wlake.org by
Tuesday, April 28. Please do not submit requests for specific
teachers.
Enrollment Intention Form
An Enrollment Intention form was sent home last week with all
students. This form only needs to be submitted if your child is NOT
returning to Bassett or going to Dover Intermediate in the fall. If you
need to download this form, page 1 is here and page 2 is here.
3rd & 4th grade Testing
3rd graders will take the Reading OAA on Wednesday, April 29. 4th
graders will take the AIR Social Studies End of Year Assessment on
Tuesday, May 5. Thank you for your patience with testing.
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress)
April 30-May 22:
MAP assessments
Students in all grades will be taking spring benchmark MAP
assessments between April 30 and May 22. Results will be sent home
with fourth quarter report cards in June. If you have any questions or
concerns about these tests, please feel free to contact your child's
teacher.

SEE MORE DATES
Last week your child brought home a brown envelope containing
a "Hats Off to Our Staff" insert. Please remind your child to color or
decorate the hat and write a short note to his/her teacher in the space
under the hat. Please send the completed insert back to school in the
envelope on Tuesday, April 28. If you need another copy of the insert,
you can download it here.
This "Hats Off" activity is in preparation for Staff Appreciation Week,
which is May 4-8. During Staff Appreciation Week we will recognize
our awesome Bassett staff in a variety of fun and creative ways. More
information about Staff Appreciation Week will be coming home at the
end of this week.

How will Permanent
Improvement Funds be
used?
A Permanent Improvement (PI) levy can only
be used for capital items with an anticipated
lifespan of at least five years. PI monies
cannot be spent on salaries or benefits.

Bassett's annual Art Show and Ice Cream Social is coming up soon!
Enjoy a complimentary sundae while exploring art students have
created throughout the year. There will be hands-on art projects to
make and take home, items for purchase created by the art club, and
a slide show featuring students in action.

materials at home that might be useful in creating Rube Goldberg
machines, such as :

pieces, pail/bucket, clipboard, fan, stuffed animal, books, tape-masking &

Proceeds will benefit the Westlake Council of PTAs and the many
parent, student and community activities it provides throughout the

WESTLAKE MUSIC BOOSTERS
Music a la Mode
Music a la Mode is May 9
The 60th annual Music a la Mode is Saturday, May 9
at the Westlake High School Performing Arts Center.
Music a la Mode is a day of concerts showcasing all
Westlake City Schools music ensembles from
grades 5-12. The schedule is here.
Tickets are $8 for adults 19 and over. Those under
19 are admitted free. Admission includes the concerts, cake and ice
cream, and live music in the rotunda. Music a la Mode is the largest
fundraiser for the Westlake Music Boosters and every penny raised
during the day goes directly into the school music programs of Pre-K
through grade 12 in the Westlake City Schools.
Volunteers are needed for Music a la Mode. Click here to sign up to
volunteer. If you have a child who is performing, be sure to check your
child's performance time on the schedule before picking a volunteer
time.

SUPERINTENDENT

Westlake Schools Superintendent Geoff Palmer invites community
members for coffee and an informal opportunity to discuss important
school issues during a series of Coffee with the
Superintendent sessions.
Coffee with the Superintendent sessions are May 4 and June 1, from
9:00 to 10:30 am at Panera Bread in Westlake. The format will be
very informal. Those attending are welcome to come and go at any
time during the specified time frame.
