Panther Robotics Programs and Application
Panther Robotics is a part of FIRST, an organization, which promotes science and technology.
Our club is relatively new, it has been in existence for 3 years and have done extraordinary
things in that time. Students on the team will work with engineers and professional from local
companies and businesses. Students will learn technical skills and business skills. Students will
also have access to scholarships that are set aside specifically for students who participate in
FIRST programs. Panther Robotics supplies a unique experience for a student that is hard to find
elsewhere.
Panther Robotics which is a FRC team. FRC teams build 120 lbs robot that can be about 2 ft by
3 ft by 5 ft high. The Build season starts early January and goes to about mid-February for a
build season of six weeks. During this time we meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday
from 2:15 – 5 but more meeting may be added before the end of the season depending on
progress with the robot. The challenge is new every year and presents new obstacle to design
for. This team travels extensively during the competition season which is late February through
April depending on which events the team signs up for and how far we advance. Competition
days are Thursday thru Saturday.
Some team requirements are:
- Must be high school age
- Student must have an email and check it daily
- Team members are expected to put in a minimum 75 work hours during the 6 week build
season
- Team members are expected to attend outreach events
- Team members are expected to be involved in Fundraising events.
- Register with FIRST online
- There is a $100.00 participation fee
- For certain leadership positions competitions are mandatory (Competition dates are not
released yet)
Joining the Team
Students who are interested in joining the team must fill out an application and be accepted.
There are only a few spots on the team and there are many interested and qualified candidates.
There is no guarantee that you will be accepted to a Panther Robotics team.
The Application is below and is expected to be filled out by the student applying.
The Application is due- October 20th, 2014
There is one way turn in an application:
Hand in your completed form (preferably typed) to either room 318 or room 314 (Mr.
McGuire or Mr. Berardi)
Applicants will be informed by if they were or were not accepted to a Panther Robotics
team for this season.

The above named student is my minor child / legal ward and I grant authorization for him / her to participate in the
activities of Panther Robotics and will hold the adult mentors or parent volunteers of that team harmless and not
liable for any injuries, damages, or expenses which may result from that child’s participation.
Team Participation Expectations
• To follow all Panther Robotics guidelines and safety rules
• To exhibit Gracious Professional in actions and a professions image in appearance
• To not use loud, profane, insulting or offensive talk or actions
• To not disrupt, interrupt or distract the team activities
• To actively participate when present at team activities, and to always represent team in a positive way
• To pay the team dues by the determined date
• To attend mandatory meetings
Transportation Related Authorizations
• Ride with an adult mentor of the team to local activities
• Ride with adult mentors to out-of-town events (within the state)
• Ride to out-of-state events on commercial transportation (bus, etc)
• Ride with adult mentors to out-of-state events
Use of Equipment
I grant authorization for my child to use the following equipment
• Hand tools – hammer, wrenches, screwdrivers, files, etc
• Power hand tools – drills, saber / jig saws, circular saw, etc
Tabletop power tools – chop saw, band saw,
drill press, etc
• Machine tools – mills, welders, plasma cutter, power press / brake / shear, etc
Autonomy at Team Sponsored Activities (when traveling out of town)
I grant authorization for my child to engage in the following activities with permission from team mentors
• Walk or travel with other team members to nearby store or restaurant
• Walk or travel without supervision to contest site or return to hotel unsupervised
• Be allowed to stay in hotel room without direct supervision
Photo Release
I grant authorization for photographs and videos to be taken of the above name child. I consent and authorize
the pictures to be used in publicity, media, or other materials as deemed appropriate by Panther Robotics
Other Information
The mentors cannot be held liable for any action taken by your child against the permission / wishes of the mentors.
If your child fails to ask permission for activities or violates rules set out by the mentors, the parent / guardian will
be notified and the child may be returned home at the parent / guardian’s expense.
I have read the Panther Robotics Handbook and this Activity form and understand the requirements. I
believe my student will honor his / her commitment and I will support this effort to the best of my ability. I
