B. Gillis and the St. David of Wales Staff CATHOLIC SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING ANGEL ON THE TREE (Outreach Program) Our next School Council meeting and social will take place on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the school Library. All are welcome to attend! What can you do to help families in our community enjoy the Spirit of Christmas? Here’s how you can help… SETTING THE STANDARD FOR HEALTHY EATING a) A healthy mind depends on a healthy body. Students who eat healthy food are better prepared to learn and are more likely to succeed in school. Schools are complying with the Ministry’s new School Food and beverage Policy that includes comprehensive nutrition standards. Please continue to send healthy snacks and lunches for your child to enjoy at school. MITTEN TREE AND FOOD DRIVE COLD WEATHER Students should come to school dressed accordingly. Research indicates that fresh air allows students to refocus on their studies. On extremely cold days, we limit the amount of time that students spend out of doors. We obtain our information from Environment Canada Weather Information and follow board guidelines. As the weather gets colder, please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the colder weather, it is always a good idea to be prepared. Submit the permission form that was sent home with your children and select the age and gender of a child b) Bring in an unwrapped gift or gift card to the school by Thursday, December 10th Again this year we invite our students to bring in new mittens, gloves, hats, socks and slippers for our Mitten Tree. We ar e also having our annual Christmas food drive in order to meet the growing needs of our local community. Please send any non-perishable foods or hygiene products with your child/ren. Thank you for your ongoing compassion and generosity and for encouraging our students to understand the meaning of giving to all those in need. All proceeds will be given to our families and items remaining will go to the St. Vincent de Paul Society . Items will be picked up on Wednesday, December 16th. We thank you in advance for your generous contributions. PIZZA LUNCH WEDNESDAYS We will be sending out the pizza order forms for January to March pizza dates Ine the next few weeks. We appreciate all visitors to the School… we do ask that you do not bring any beverages into the Gymnasium or when visiting the classrooms. Thank you again for your continued cooperation. FULL DAY KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION ATTENDANCE & PUNCTUALITY Full day kindergarten registration will take place at St. David of Wales. Students who have attended Junior Kindergarten at St. David of Wales during the 2016/2017school year are not required to register again. The Ministry of Education states that it is the responsibility of each parent to ensure that his/her child be in attendance and at scheduled activities on time and with the proper materials required for full participation. At St. David of Wales School, we teach children to be on time for their scheduled classes. Regular and punctual attendance on the part of the student is vital to the process of learning. Students who are habitually late or absent for class will miss essential parts of the program. Also, when a child is late, the entire class is disrupted and program is affected for all. It is essential that your child be punctual in order to achieve maximum success. Please reinforce the importance of promptness with your child. Should your child have a legitimate reason to be late or absent at any time, please call the school or provide them with a written note to assist us in appropriate follow-up. Frequent late arrivals or absences will result in a letter home, and if necessary an attendance conference. Listen to the driver. 2. Remain seated at all times 3. Speak in conversational tones (no yelling) 4. Refrain from using inappropriate language 5. Do not eat/drink on the bus SNOWBALLS When the cold months arrive and snow and ice on the ground is plentiful, we all like to play in it and with it. Throwing snowballs and sliding on the ice is fun. However, as much fun as it is, snow and ice, can be very dangerous when lots of people are in a small area. In order for our school to be as safe as possible, the school rule must be that snow and ice stays on the ground. There will be no snowballs, tunnels, kicking snow or any other activity with snow or ice that could be harmful. LOST AND FOUND During the week of December 14th, the Lost and Found items will be placed on hooks in the downstairs hall. We ask that students check these hooks for any lost clothing. Any items that remain at the end of the week will be donated to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Please use discretion in keeping your children home to recover if they are ill. A child who is coughing, wheezing, etc. is not in a state to learn and will only infect others. If a student is sent to school, it is assumed that they will participate in all aspects of the school day, including outdoor recess. We do not pr ovide individual indoor supervision. We also remind parents/ guardians to dress students for our weather conditions. We will be having outdoor recess, weather permitting, as much as possible. At all times, we follow the Board guidelines for inclement weather. The students enjoy going out, especially if they have their snowsuits, boots, hats and mittens.
