Beatitudes for Mothers
Blessed are mothers … who did without for us,
they will be rewarded.
Blessed are mothers … who lost sleep when we
were sick, they will find rest.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us how to
pray, they will share God’s Kingdom.
Blessed are mothers … who comforted us, they
shall be comforted.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us right from
wrong, they will know justice.
Blessed are mothers … who shared with us the
meaning of peace, they shall know peace.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us the importance of loving, they shall be loved.
CROWNING OF MARY
On May 8, 2014, we will be celebrating the Crowning of
Mary. We will have two celebrations. At 9:30 a.m. for JK
to Grade 3 and at 10:30 a.m. for Grades 4 to 8 . Please feel
free to join us for this beautiful ceremony. We are very
thankful to the Rosary Apostolates of St. Martin of Tours
Parish for preparing our students for this very special celebration.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION
WEEK
“Serving in the Love of Christ”
This year's theme is "Serving in the Love of Christ”. The
scriptural passage that guides our theme is: ‘I am among you
as one who serves.’ (Luke 22:27e)Catholic Education Week
begins on a Sunday to highlight the partnership that remains
the foundation of Catholic education between our Catholic
schools and local Catholic parishes. Throughout Catholic
Education Week, we ask you to reflect on the significance of
Catholic education’s presence and contribution in our
Church, and in our society. We invite all members of our
community, to participate in the celebrations and activities
that will mark the celebration of Catholic Education Week
2014 in our schools. - See more at: http://www.dpcdsb.org/

PERSONAL TREASURES
A “personal treasure is any item, regardless of its monetary
value, that holds a personal significance to a person. This
might include jewelry, cards, stuffed animals. Parents/
Guardians are asked to reinforce with their children that
these items are NOT to be brought to school. All electronic
devices and personal electronic devices (ipods, cell phones,
cameras, etc.) are not allowed at school, or any school sanctioned event, as per board policy.
REPORTING HEAD INJURIES
Even when it may appear to be insignificant,
we inform parents/guardians of all reported
head injuries at school. We do this in recognition of the potential danger of any injury involving the head area. Our intent is not to alarm you, but to
keep you informed. Please remind your child to let a staff
member know if they bump their head or if they get hurt at
school. Student safety is of utmost importance to us at St.
David of Wales.
STUDENT INFORMATION
Please remember to update the office wirth any new information regarding your child. The office needs to be advised of
any changes to telephone numbers, emergency contacts or address so that we have all the correct information for your child
in case of an emergency.
LEAVING AT LUNCHTIME
Parents,/Guardians, please be advised that ALL students must
have written permission from a parent/guardian to leave the
school at lunch. Verbal permission ( over the phone) will not
be accepted. A signed and dated note with a parent/guardian
signature is required for each occurrence. The note must come
to the office and students are required to sign out and to sign
back in when they return for afternoon classes.
SAFE SCHOOLS
St. David of Wales is committed to providing a safe, caring
and inclusive school. We continue to encourage positive interactions and a community that welcome and values healthy relationship, high academic standards, respect, gospel values and
virtuous living. Together students, parents and teachers continue to learn how to protect the community from a variety of
forms of bullying while building student self esteem and
awareness. We continue to encourage positive and healthy
peer-to-peer relationships. Youth Education Officers work in
partnership with the Dufferin Peel catholic District School
Board to create a positive and safe learning environment within
the elementary school system.
RECESS REMINDERS
We at St. David of Wales have a NO CONTACT policy. This
policy states that students are not to play any games or be involved in any activities in the school yard that involve physical
contact. Games such as tackle football, manhunt and like
games are not allowed. If a game develops during the course
of a recess break where contact becomes part of the game or
activity, students are reminded to remove themselves from
that activity and to report the contact to the nearest staff member on yard duty. Staff can easily be identified by their bright
orange vests.
MOVING
If you are planning a move or have already moved, please let
us know. You are required to complete
a new assessment form even if you
move within our school boundaries. If
you are moving to a new school we will
give you a Transfer Form to take with
you to the new school In the past, we
have had to reorganize our classes in
September due to unexpected transfers. Please remember we
must adhere to the ministry cap of 20 students in our primary
grades.
DRESS CODE
With the approach of the warmer weather,
we ask you to review our dress code with
your children. At all times, clothing
should be comfortable, tasteful and appropriate to our Catholic school environment.
Clothing must display appropriate and acceptable words
and graphics.
Girls’ tops must have a minimum of 5 cm.
(approximately the width of 3 adult fingers) at the shoulders.
Boys’ tops must have sleeves.
Shorts and skirts must reach the bottom of the students’
fingertips when hands are relaxed to their side.
Specifically not allowed are: Bandanas, str ing tops,
tube tops, halter tops, or anything that exposes bare skin,
midriffs and/or undergarments, skin tight clothing, spandex
shorts and pants, sheer materials (including mesh), cut-offs,
torn or ragged clothing and pants which sag below the
waist. Thank you for your co-operation in helping to instill
the values of common sense, good taste
and modesty in our
WATER BOTTLES
Students are permitted to bring full
water bottles to school. However, for
safety reasons they will not be allowed to refill them during the day.
Students are permitted to have them
on their desks but are to be used under the direction of
the classroom teacher. We have found in the past that
at times students use these for water fights in the playground. During recesses students will continue to receive a pass so they can come into the school for water. Your understanding is much appreciated.
CRC (CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECK)
All volunteers who come into the school either to help out in the
classroom or to accompany their child on a class trip MUST
have a Criminal Reference Check. You just have to come in to
the office to meet with the Principal, Mrs. Gillis, and receive the
forms necessary for a CRC. You only have to have this done
once, then every year you will receive a form to sign called
“Annual Criminal Offence Declaration” which will be kept on
file at the school. It does not cost anything to get a CRC if you
bring in the Volunteer Form and the Volunteer Authorization
Letter signed by the Principal.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our last Catholic School Council meeting will be held on
Wednesday May 7, at t 6:30 p.m. All
are welcome to attend. We thank
our very committed Council Members
for their on-going work and support
for our students and staff.
EQAO Grade 3 and Grade 6 Testing
The following time span has been designated for the Provincial
EQAO testing. We ask that parents of Grade 3 and 6 students
make sure that they mark these dates on their calendar, and we
ask that parents do not book appointments at all during this time
span. Students attendance during this time periods is absolutely
essential! The test period has been scheduled from May 26 June 5, 2014.
GRADE 8 CONFIRMATION
The Grade 8 Confirmation was held at St.
Martin of Tours Parish on Friday, April

Father Joyson and Archbishop Petar Rajic

David of Wales students and community.
LOCKDOWNS AND FIRE DRILLS
For your information we will be rehearsing a number of emergency response situations including lock
-downs and fire drills. All schools are required by
Board policy to practice these procedures throughout the year. Participation is essential for precautionary purposes only, so that in the event of an actual emergency,
students will be prepared to respond in a safe and responsible
manner. If you would like additional information, please feel
free to contact the school.
BIKES

many students are choosing to ride
their bikes to school. We do have a
bike rack located at the back of the
school. Please keep in mind that
students are not to ride their bikes
on school property, including pathways, and they do ride their bikes at their own risk. The
school cannot be responsible for any lost or damaged bikes.
