NOVEMBER 2010
VIRTUE OF CONSCIENCE
Gracious and merciful God of all creation,
During this season of remembrance, we remember how you have gifted us with free will.
You have given us the virtue of conscience to ensure that we will
Know the good and decent way to act and then choose to act that way.
We come to you now asking for the grace and strength
To form and to follow our conscience in order to bring to life your plan
For a safe, caring, inclusive community here at St. David of Wales.
May your virtue of conscience free us to make decisions that serve the good of all your people.
We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son, who lived to show us your way.
Amen
A person of conscience…

Chooses to do the „right thing‟ and feels good about it
Can see how his/her actions may hurt others
Admits his/her wrong-doing and feels badly
Says „sorry‟ and tries to make up for mistakes
Keeps promises
IN FLANDERS FIELD
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Although this may or may not affect your child’s class
directly, please send foods with your child to school that
are free from peanuts or nut products.
Please do not send food items to be shared with others.
If you wish to acknowledge your child’s birthday with
their classmates, items such as erasers or pencils would
be appropriate.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

The Boys also had a very successful post season after
garnering a 5 an 0- regular season record. They faced a
strong challenge at the outset, losing their first round
robin set to a gritty St. Raymond crew. The boys
regrouped by winning all their other games, eventually
finishing number one in their division. The semi-finals
held exciting rallies during which the boys prevailed in
straight sets setting up a championship match
against…St. Raymond. That final went the distance as
the teams split the first two sets with just three points
separating them. The Dragons breathed fire in the last
and deciding set with a convincing 15-7 victory.
Garnering the gold medal and a trip to the Board finals.

St. David of Wales continues to implement a wide variety
of strategies in Literacy and Numeracy for the benefit of
all students. We are continuing with our uninterrupted
Literacy blocks in both the Primary and Junior grades.
Our Literacy Room has a wide variety of resources for
our emergent, early and proficient readers reflecting the
Genres of text. Teachers work/plan with their grade level
partners for consistency and use a variety of resources
(manipulatives, anchor charts, math dictionaries, PRIME,
PM, CASI) to meet the needs of the learner. Teachers
continue to use data driven instruction and group students
accordingly.

As we move into the fall season and a change in weather,
we ask that students bring a pair of indoor shoes that can
be worn inside the school and left in their classroom.
PEDICULOSIS
Although it may seem early in the school year, we would
like to bring to your attention a problem which occurs
from time to time in each school. The problem is
infestation by head lice (Pediculosis). Unfortunately, in
recent years, head lice have become increasingly
common throughout North America. They are parasites
which have been common among human beings for
centuries. They are not connected in any way to dirt or
neglect. Anyone can be infested. In order to control
these pests, we shall follow these procedures and request
your full co-operation. If cases are found in the
classroom we shall inform parents. We would request
that you check your own children and if you find them to
be infested, we would ask that you inform the school, and
you contact the Peel Public Health Department for
treatment information. If your children do become
infested by head lice, we will ask you to keep them out of
the school until after they have been treated with the
correct shampoo and their hair is entirely clear of both
lice and nits (eggs). Students will not be permitted to
return to class until they have been checked by the office.
If we all co-operate in these procedures, we may not
entirely escape outbreaks, but we will be able to bring
them under control quickly. For additional information,
guidance and any questions please contact Peel Public
Health Department at (905) 799-7700. As well you may
find the following website useful www.headlice.org.
P.E.D. POLICY

To prevent the lost or damage of PED’s we encourage
students to leave their PEDS at home.
VALUABLES
Please help us to protect your child’s valuables by
keeping them at home.
Staff cannot be responsible for any valuables that your
child brings to school. In order to avoid valuables being
lost or misplaced please keep them at home.
