A Prayer for Mothers
All-loving God, we give you thanks and praise for
mothers young and old.
We pray for young mothers, who give life and
count toes and tend to our every need; May they
be blessed with patience and tenderness to care
for their families and themselves with great joy.
We pray for our own mothers who have nurtured
and cared for us; May they continue to guide us
in strong and gentle ways.
We remember mothers who are separated from
their children because of war, poverty, or conflict; May they feel the loving embrace of our God
who wipes every tear away.
We pray for women who are not mothers but still
love and shape us with motherly care and compassion.
We remember mothers. grandmothers, and greatgrandmothers who are no longer with us but who
live forever in our memory and nourish us with
their love. Amen.

WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN
On Thursday, May 10, @ 6:30—8:00 a “Welcome to
Kindergarten” (WTK) presentation will be given to parents/guardians and children who will be attending Junior
Kindergarten in September, 2012. Due to the nature of
the activities, please do not bring siblings. After a presentation to parents/guardians, the children and parents/guardians participate in different centres. Upon completion of the presentation and centres, each child will
receive a bag filled with wonderful materials i.e. books,
paper, play dough, scissors, letters
and numbers. These materials will
be an excellent preparation for the
children and their parents/guardians
to use to prepare prior to Kindergarten. Welcome to Kindergarten is
sponsored by the “Learning Partnership” and is supported by The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School
Board.
ADMININSTRATION ASSISTANT DAY
April 25, was Administration Assistant Day. The
staff and students at St. David of Wales would like
to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to
Mrs. Gibson for all that she does on a daily basis for
all of us. Not only does she tend to our busy office
administration work but she provides first aid to our
students on numerous occasions throughout the day.
Mrs. Gibson, we really appreciate and thank you for
all that you do and we hope that your day was extra
special, just like you.
Sincerely,
Staff & Students of St. David of Wales
MOVING
If you are planning a move or have
already moved, please let us know.
You are required to complete a
new assessment form even if you
move within our school boundaries. If you are moving to a
new school we will give you a Transfer Form to take with
you to the new school. If you are moving but would like
your child to remain at St. David of Wales, please submit
your request in writing. We will be preparing classes for
September, 2012 and this information will be helpful in
determining class sizes. In the past, we have had to reorganize our classes in September due to unexpected transfers. Please remember we must adhere to the ministry cap
of 20 students in our primary grades.
DRESS CODE
With the approach of the warmer weather, we ask you
to review our dress code with your children. At all
times, clothing should be comfortable, tasteful and
appropriate to our Catholic school environment.
 Clothing must display appropriate and acceptable
words and graphics.
 Girls’ tops must have a minimum of 5 cm.
(approximately the width of 3 adult fingers) at the
shoulders.
 Boys’ tops must have sleeves.
Shorts and skirts must reach the bottom of the students’ fingertips when
hands are relaxed to their side.
*Undergarments must be covered.
BIKES
As the warmer weather approaches, many students are choosing
to ride their bikes to school. We do have a bike rack located at
the back of the school. Please keep in mind that students are not
to ride their bikes on school property, including pathways, and
they do ride their bikes at their own risk. The school cannot be
responsible for any lost or damaged bikes. Students are strongly
encouraged to lock their bikes on the
rack and bring their helmets inside the
school. Please remember that skateboards, rollerblades and “wheelie shoes,
are not allowed in the school yard.
CRC (CRIMINAL REFERENCE
CHECK)
All volunteers who come into the
school either to help out in the classroom or to accompany their child on a
class trip MUST have a Criminal Reference Check. You just have to come
in to the office to meet with the Principal, Mrs. Gillis, and receive the forms
necessary for a CRC. You only have to have this done once,
then every year you will receive a form to sign called “Annual
Criminal Offence Declaration” which will be kept on file at the
school. It does not cost anything to get a CRC if you bring in
the Volunteer Form and the Volunteer Authorization Letter
signed by the Principal.
SILVER BIRCH
This year we will re-introduce the Silver Birch Award Book
Reading Club. Students from grades 4 to 6 will be invited to
select from the Silver Birch nominated books. They will meet
weekly either face to face or on a blog. Further information will
follow at a later time. All Junior students will vote the beginning of this month in the Silver Birch Award category.
Specifically not allowed are: Bandanas, string tops,
tube tops, halter tops, or anything that exposes bare
skin, midriffs and/or undergarments, skin tight clothing, spandex shorts and pants, sheer materials
(including mesh), cut-offs, torn or ragged clothing and
pants which sag below the waist. Thank you for your BLUE SPRUCE
co-operation in helping to instill the values of comTen picture books, written by Canadian
mon sense, good taste and modesty in our students.
WATER BOTTLES
Students are permitted to bring full water
bottles to school. However, for safety
reasons they will not be allowed to refill
them during the day. Students are permitted to have them on their desks but
are to be used under the direction of the
classroom teacher. We have found in the past that at
times students use these for water fights in the playground. During recesses students will continue to receive a pass so they can come into the school for water. Your understanding is much appreciated.
authors, are nominated each year to be part
of the Forest of Reading Awards.
Our primary students will listen to the selection of these ten new books and track
their responses in special booklets with
literacy-based activities. All Primary students will vote the beginning of this month
in the Blue Spruce Award category.
