Beatitudes for Mothers
Blessed are mothers … who did without for us,
they will be rewarded.
Blessed are mothers … who lost sleep when we
were sick, they will find rest.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us how to
pray, they will share God’s Kingdom.
Blessed are mothers … who comforted us, they
shall be comforted.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us right from
wrong, they will know justice.
Blessed are mothers … who shared with us the
meaning of peace, they shall know peace.
Blessed are mothers … who taught us the importance of loving, they shall be loved.

CROWNING OF MARY
On May 9, 2013, we will be celebrating the Crowning of
Mary. We will have two celebrations. At 9:30 a.m. for JK
to Grade 3 and at 10:30 a.m. for Grades 4 to 8 . Please feel
free to join us for this beautiful ceremony. We are very
thankful to the Rosary Apostolates of St. Martin of Tours
Parish for preparing our students for this very special celebration.
CATHOLIC EDUCATION WEEK
―Growing Together In Faith‖
Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic
schools are faith communities. We—parents, students,
teachers, administrative and support staff—walk and grow
together in the faith which we received at our Baptism. And
it is the ‗together‘ that we grow. And as we learn from nature, growth relies on sun and water and nutrition. Otherwise, it may ace away and even die. Our growth is primarily
a relationship with God, who at our Baptism, called us by
name. But the response of each of us to that growth is both
personal and communal. We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere of our Catholic community be that of our
local parish, our home, or our Catholic school community.
Our school community will celebrate Catholic Education
Week 2013 in ways that are appropriate to our students‘ age.
There are five sub-themes for each day of Catholic Education Week:
Monday—Faith that is Rooted
Tuesday—Faith that is Nurtured
Wednesday—faith that is Discerned
Thursday—Faith that is Witnessed
Friday—Faith that is Celebrated
We hope to see you during our school events.
PERSONAL TREASURES
A ―personal treasure is any item, regardless of its monetary
value, that holds a personal significance to a person. This
might include jewelry, cards, stuffed animals. Parents/
Guardians are asked to reinforce with their children that
these items are NOT to be brought to school. All electronic
devices and personal electronic devices (ipods, cell phones,
cameras, etc.) are not allowed at school, or any school sanctioned event, as per board policy.
REPORTING HEAD INJURIES
Just a reminder that student supervision begins at 8:45; students
must not be dropped off at the school before this time. Please
also note that the Kindergarten gates must be kept closed at all
times!
CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECK
In compliance with Ministry directives, a Criminal Reference
Check is required if you wish to volunteer your services in the
school, transport of students and assist on trips. Copies of the
Criminal Reference forms are available in the office. An annual declaration is required for all valid Criminal Reference
Checks that are on file in the school office. A Criminal reference Check will be required this year if you plan to volunteer
for both in school and out of school activities.
STUDENT INFORMATION
Please remember to update the office wirth any new information regarding your child. The office needs to be advised of
any changes to telephone numbers, emergency contacts or address so that we have all the correct information for your child
in case of an emergency.
LEAVING AT LUNCHTIME
Parents,/Guardians, please be advised that ALL students must
have written permission from a parent/guardian to leave the
school at lunch. Verbal permission ( over the phone) will not
be accepted. A signed and dated note with a parent/guardian
signature is required for each occurrence. The note must come
to the office and students are required to sign out and to sign
back in when they return for afternoon classes.
SAFE SCHOOLS
St. David of Wales is committed to providing a safe, caring
and inclusive school. We continue to encourage positive interactions and a community that welcome and values healthy relationship, high academic standards, respect, gospel values and
virtuous living. Together students, parents and teachers continue to learn how to protect the community from a variety of
forms of bullying while building student self esteem and
awareness. We continued to encourage positive and healthy
peer-to-peer relationships. Youth Education Officers work in
partnership with the Dufferin Peel catholic District School
Board to create a positive and safe learning environment within
the elementary school system.
RECESS REMINDERS
We are St. David of Wales have a NO CONTACT policy.
This policy states that students are not to play any games or be

orange vests.
MOVING
If you are planning a move or have
already moved, please let us know.
You are required to complete a
new assessment form even if you
move within our school boundaries. If you are moving to a
new school we will give you a Transfer Form to take with
you to the new school In the past, we have had to reorganize our classes in September due to unexpected transfers.
Please remember we must adhere to the ministry cap of 20
students in our primary grades.
DRESS CODE
With the approach of the warmer weather, we ask you
to review our dress code with your children. At all
times, clothing should be comfortable, tasteful and
appropriate to our Catholic school environment.
 Clothing must display appropriate and acceptable
words and graphics.
 Girls‘ tops must have a minimum of 5 cm.
(approximately the width of 3 adult fingers) at the
shoulders.
 Boys‘ tops must have sleeves.
Shorts and skirts must reach the bottom of the students‘ fingertips when hands are relaxed to their side.
*Undergarments must be covered.
Specifically not allowed are: Bandanas, string tops, tube tops, halter
tops, or anything that exposes bare
skin, midriffs and/or undergarments,
skin tight clothing, spandex shorts and
pants, sheer materials (including mesh), cut-offs, torn
or ragged clothing and pants which sag below the
waist. Thank you for your co-operation in helping to
instill the values of common sense, good taste and
modesty in our students.
WATER BOTTLES
Students are permitted to bring full water
bottles to school. However, for safety
reasons they will not be allowed to refill
them during the day. Students are permitted to have them on their desks but
are to be used under the direction of the
classroom teacher. We have found in the
past that at times students use these for
water fights in the playground. During recesses students will continue to receive a pass so they can come
into the school for water. Your understanding is much
appreciated.
BIKES
As the warmer weather approaches, many students are choosing
to ride their bikes to school. We do have a bike rack located at
the back of the school. Please keep in mind that students are not
to ride their bikes on school property, including pathways, and
they do ride their bikes at their own risk. The school cannot be
responsible for any lost or damaged
bikes. Students are strongly encouraged
to lock their bikes on the rack and bring
their helmets inside the school. Please
remember that skateboards, rollerblades
and ―wheelie shoes, are not allowed in
the school yard.
CRC (CRIMINAL REFERENCE CHECK)
All volunteers who come into the
school either to help out in the classroom or to accompany their child on a
class trip MUST have a Criminal Reference Check. You just have to come
in to the office to meet with the Principal, Mrs. Gillis, and receive the forms
necessary for a CRC. You only have to have this done once,
then every year you will receive a form to sign called ―Annual
Criminal Offence Declaration‖ which will be kept on file at the
school. It does not cost anything to get a CRC if you bring in
the Volunteer Form and the Volunteer Authorization Letter
signed by the Principal.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
Our last Catholic School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
We thank our very committed Council Members for their ongoing work and support for our students and staff.
EQAO Grade 3 and Grade 6 Testing
The following time span has been designated for the Provincial
EQAO testing. We ask that parents of Grade 3 and 6 students
make sure that they mark these dates on their calendar, and we
ask that parents do not book appointments at all during this
time span. Students attendance during this time periods is absolutely essential! The test period has been scheduled from
May 28—June 6, 2013.
GRADE 8 CONFIRMATION
The Grade 8 Confirmation was held at St.
Martin of Tours Parish on Friday, April
26th, at 7:00 p.m. We would like to thank
Father Joyson and Father Gijo for celebrating Confirmation with the St. David of
Wales students and community.
WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN
On Thursday, May 9, @ 6:30—8:00 a ―Welcome to Kindergarten‖ (WTK) presentation will be given to parents/guardians and children who will be attending Junior
Kindergarten in September, 2013. Due to the nature of
the activities, please do not bring siblings. After a presentation to parents/guardians, the children and parents/guardians participate in a variety of centres. Upon
completion of the presentation and centres, each child
will receive a bag filled with wonderful
materials i.e. books, paper, play dough,
scissors, letters and numbers. These materials will be an excellent preparation for
the children and their parents/guardians to
use to prepare prior to Kindergarten. Welcome to Kindergarten is sponsored by the ―Learning
Partnership‖ and is supported by The Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board.
