This will be the first dwelling of its kind to be constructed on campus since Moody Towers in 1970. Space programming features for the seven-story $50 million complex include a large living/learning center, seminar and other multi-use rooms, many large lounges throughout for resident interaction, fitness room, computer labs, a 3,000 SF convenience store, and areas allocated for a large support and resident staff. The construction of this 1,000-bed facility marks the beginning of UH’s plan to build a residential village on the south edge of campus. For years the university’s goal has been to expand campus housing along with boosting student enrollment. Fall 2009’s enrollment increased by 2.7% with a total of 37,069 students signing up for classes. UH ultimate goal is to accommodate 25% of the student population on campus. Hardin Construction is the general contractor for this design-build project. HADP is the architect. Mei Chang and Dean Ruck of Facilities Planning are the project managers. Completion is scheduled for summer 2010. -END-
