A LENTEN PRAYER Lord, Jesus, our Saviour, By Your passion, death, and resurrection, You have set us free from sin and death. May Your grace renew our hearts during this holy season of Lent And help us to turn away from sin, repent, and be faithful to the Gospel. May we learn to appreciate more deeply the magnificence of Your love for us as You humbled Yourself and gave Your life on the cross that we might receive the gift of eternal life. Accept our prayer, fasting and acts of charity as we seek to draw closer to You during these 40 days of Lent as we prepare for the celebration of Your resurrection. Strengthen the faith of Your people so that we may be a sign of Your love to all the world. We ask this in Your sacred name. AMEN. Parish

God has given us the gift of friends and family to keep us company, love us, and help us out along the way. Every person in our lives carries the Spirit of God and so every person is our brother or sister through Jesus Christ so we all deserve to be shown concern for our welfare and our feelings. We have all been graced with the fruit of the Holy Spirit called Kindness. Kindness is seen through our words and our actions. A KIND person...  says nice things about others and includes others so they feel good about themselves  sticks up for people who are picked on or need help  refuses to join others who are insulting, intimidating, mean, or hurtful in any way  watches and looks for ways to help those in need 4WH DATES TO REMEMBER March 11th March 14th – 18th March 20th March 23rd March 24th March 24th March 25th March 27th March 28th Toonie Two Ball

Come ready to show off your basketball skills in the gym, where every student will be given ONE MINUTE to score as many points as they can. All we ask is if you could bring a Toonie on March 11th. All toonies collected will go to ShareLife charities. So dust off your basketball shoes, practice your free‐throws, grab a toonie and get ready to bring it like LeBron on Wednesday March 11th! With special thanks to Mr. Trias and Mr. Palmieri for their work organizing this event. Thank you also to Mrs. Rostami who will be leading us in organizing various fundraising activities for ShareLife. NEWS FROM THE INTERMEDIATE LEADERSHIP TEAM Kindness is our virtue of the month for March. To highlight our own kindness in the school community and to celebrate the arrival of spring, we are kicking off the Spring Fling Kindness Spectacular. All through the season of Lent we encourage you and your classmates to go out of your way to be kind to your classmates and teachers. We will be rewarding individuals and classrooms with Social Butterfly tickets, which we will use as entry tickets to the Spring Fling dance after Easter. The colourful butterflies will also be used to decorate our gym, and show everyone how much kindness we have a Cardinal Newman. Thank you to our Grade 6,7 and 8 members of the Intermediate Leadership team and Mr. Moroniewicz for all of their leadership with this initiative. E.Q.A.O. DATES The provincial Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) has designated the dates for the Primary and Junior Divisions Assessments of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. We request that parents of Grades 3 and 6 students refrain from booking vacations or other appointments that would result in their child(ren) being away from school during the period of May 25 to June 8, 2016. More specific dates, times, and information for our school will follow in the coming months. 2015‐16 School Year Calendar Additional Professional Activity Day: Monday, April 11, 2016 Terms of the recent contract settlement between the teacher federations and the Ministry of Education included the provision of an additional Professional Activity Day for the 2015‐2016 school year for both elementary and secondary schools. Recently, boards were directed to schedule this additional Professional Development Day on or before April 15, 2016. In the Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board, the designated additional Professional Activity Day has been scheduled for Monday, April 11, 2016. Therefore, there will be no classes for either elementary or secondary students on Monday, April 11, 2016. Thank you for your attention to this addition to the 2015‐16 School Year Calendar. LIBRARY NEWS A huge thank you goes out to everyone who came out to support our Scholastic Book Fair last month! With your help we were able to surpass our goal by over $1000, for a grand total of $4300! The money raised will be going towards buying new books for the library, as well as updating some of the shelving units. Thank you again to everyone with your help in this endeavour! CARDINAL NEWMAN MUSICAL: SAVE THE DATE! We are well underway to preparing for the Cardinal Newman school musical! The staff are all working hard to support this cause. Everyone in grades 3‐8 has the opportunity to perform on stage. Letters went home in the middle of February asking if students were able to perform on stage or not. The musical will be taking place the afternoon of April 27th and the evening of April 28th, 2016. Tickets will be sold at the beginning of April. Please make sure your child has completed the musical form and returned it to school as soon as possible. Heartfelt gratitude goes out to Mrs. Resendes and Ms. Tuason for their leadership in overseeing this project. BOYS’ NIGHT IN: SAVE THE DATE Cardinal Newman is getting ready for its first Boys’ Night In. Parents please save the date ‐ Wednesday March 9th from 4:00‐8:00 p.m. Grade 6‐8 boys (and possibly grade 5) will have the opportunity to participate in an engaging evening filled with team building workshops and physical activity. Our evening will be supported by the Rising Stars organization which empowers and teaches students about life skills, cooperation, team building and many other important skills and they do this all through the fundamentals of sports. The boys will also celebrate in liturgy together to begin our evening and they will share dinner together (please see the permission form for more details). Boys received permission forms for this evening on February 23rd. We are asking that all forms and the $5 fee be returned to their classroom teacher by Tuesday March 1st. There is a maximum capacity of 90 for this evening so we are asking boys to return their forms as soon as possible. Participation in the evening will be on a first come first serve basis! We are looking forward to a successful evening and we are hoping to make this a yearly event! GRADUATION: SAVE THE DATE! We will be celebrating the learning journey of our Grade 8 students on June 27th, 2016. The day will begin with a luncheon and dance for the students, followed by a graduation ceremony at Riverstone Golf & Country Club. Details will be shared via communication from classroom teachers closer to the date. INTERMEDIATE TRIP TO QUEBEC CITY Our Intermediate Trip to Quebec City will take place on May 16th – May 19th. Thank you to all participating students for bringing in their second payment which was due on February 19th, 2016. The next (third) instalment is due on March 11th, 2016. Please do not hesitate to call the school and ask to speak to Madame Guglielmi if you have any questions or concerns regarding the trip. On behalf of all the intermediate teachers we thank you for your continued support! CODING CLUB Coding is an important and valuable skill that supports students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, also known as “STEM”. Computer Science and programming are fast becoming a basic literacy in the digital age. In addition to computational thinking and problem solving, coding also teaches students to think creatively, work collaboratively and think logically as they learn the foundation of computer programming. We are happy to introduce a Coding Club to Cardinal Newman. Under the direction of Mrs. Kastoris, our special assignment teacher, and Ms. Capel, the coding club will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays during the lunch hour. We are grateful to the leadership of Mrs. Kastoris and Ms. Capel for offering this wonderful opportunity to our students! INTERMEDIATE BOYS’ BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS This month we will begin our Intermediate Intramural Basketball League (AKA The D‐League). On Wednesdays, Grade 7 & 8 boys and girls will have fun playing some 3 on 3 basketball. Permission forms have already been distributed to students that signed up. With special thanks to Mr. Trias for organizing this for our students. PRIMARY SOCCER INTRAMURALS The time for our primary soccer superstars is finally here! The soccer intramural season for our grade 2 and 3 boys and girls kicks off the first week of March. Students who sign up will be given an opportunity to play during the lunch hour, twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). A schedule with assigned dates for each team will be sent with the students the first week of March. With special thanks to Mrs. Sztork and Mrs. Weber for their leadership in organizing this for our students. JUNIOR GIRLS’ AND BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAMS Junior Girls’ Basketball Team: A big congratulations to our Junior Girls’ Basketball Team for their 3rd place finish in our family of schools! The girls finished with an incredible record at the tournament ‐ one win, two ties and only one loss but the loss was only by one point! The girls have truly demonstrated what hard work, commitment, active participation, active listening, and teamwork can accomplish. We are looking forward to our next season so that we can continue to improve on this amazing year. The girls will continue to develop their skills as they help the intermediate girls prepare for their season. Thank you girls for your continued dedication. Cardinal Newman and your coach are so incredibly proud of your accomplishments. With special thanks to Ms. Moniz‐Baptista for coaching the Junior Girls’ Basketball Team. Junior Boys’ Basketball Team: A big congratulations to our Junior Boys’ Basketball Team for their efforts during the Family of Schools tournament! The boys demonstrated hard work, commitment and teamwork. The boys will continue to train as they help the intermediate boys prepare for their season. With special thanks to Mr. Zubac for coaching the Junior Boys’ Basketball Team and for convening the tournament! SCHOOL FOCUS AND COLLABORATIVE INQUIRY Our school focus this year will be on building “Collaborative Inquiry” (staff and students working together) while focusing on the development of learning skills and growth mindsets. Growth mindset is a belief that a learner’s abilities can grow and are not fixed. Inquiry‐based learning is an approach to teaching and learning that places students’ questions, ideas and observations at the centre of the learning experience. Studies show that student achievement improves enormously when students are engaged in collaborative inquiry. Our school’s collaborative focus for 2015‐2016 is: “If we continue to model a growth mindset, through educator collaboration, as we focus on inquiry practices [in MATH, FSL, NM, ETC.] and the explicit teaching of learning skills, then student engagement and achievement will improve.” At school, teachers and students will work together to construct a list of behaviours and habits for each Learning Skill. Each list will be written in kid‐friendly language to help students understand each Learning Skill better. This will give students an understanding of how each Learning Skill can be applied inside and outside of school. The school will focus on one of the six Learning Skills each month. The students will learn the indicators for each skill and what learning habits they need to continue to develop to lead them toward success. To further support our collaborative inquiry, all classroom teacher are using the Mind Up resource as part of creating conditions for learning. This resource contains lessons designed for helping students focus their attention, improve their self‐regulation skills, build resilience to stress, and develop a positive mind‐set in both school and life. In response to our EQAO statistic, we are also using Intervention Meetings for level 2 students to close the achievement gap. At these interventions meetings, the team discuss various interventions strategies to support our level 2 learners. CATHOLIC SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETINGS Communication between home and school is enhanced greatly by parental involvement with the Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC). All parents/guardians are encouraged to come out to and participate in meetings. The aim of the Catholic School Advisory Council is to promote the vision, values, sacramental life and Catholic practices of the Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board and the Catholic community it serves, and to advise the principal and the Board. Our Catholic School Advisory Council will be holding their meetings at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. All parents are invited to attend. Please see dates below: Future Meeting Dates: Monday, April 18, 2016 Tuesday, May 17, 2016 Tuesday, June 7, 2016 (Year‐End Social – Potluck) YARD SUPERVISION A reminder to the parents and students that yard supervision does not begin until 9:00 a.m. Students who arrive early at school will have to remain outside. Some parents drop off their children as early as 8:45 a.m. This practice puts your children at risk. We respectfully remind you that it is your responsibility to ensure appropriate care for your children prior to 9:00 a.m. KISS AND RIDE The school’s Kiss and Ride Program is located at the front of the building. The “Kiss and Ride” lane is for stopping to drop off your child. It is NOT for parking in the morning. If you need to come into the school, please park in a designated parking spot. The parking authorities frequently make visits to our school and many members of our community have been ticketed with very expensive fines. For parents/guardians who wish to walk their child to the Kindergarten area, please park your car in the parking area. Please do not park in the Kiss and Ride area or the reserved parking spots TRANSPORTATION BUS LOADING ZONE Please be reminded that the front of the school is designated as a “Bus Loading Zone”. Parents/guardians are not permitted to pick up or drop off students in this zone. The safety of the students is our priority. Please drop off or pick up students in the designated school parking lot or the “Kiss and Ride” area. Please ensure that your child rides the bus to which he or she has been assigned. If you wish to change your child’s bus, bus stop or have concerns about the bus schedule you must contact the Transportation (STOPR) department directly at (905) 890‐6000. It is a parental responsibility to ensure that kindergarten and Grade 1 students are met at the bus. If the bus driver does not see a parent or sitter at the scheduled bus stop, the child will be returned to school. VISITORS AT THE SCHOOL & SAFE SCHOOLS ACCESS All visitors and parents are requested to enter the building through the front door and check in at the office. Please sign in, and obtain a pass if you plan to remain in the building for any reason during school hours. Please understand that during instructional time, teachers are not available to meet with you or to take phone calls. All messages or deliveries for students will be handled through the front office. Students are expected to enter and exit through their designated doors. THE ONLINE REPORTING TOOL The Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School board has developed a new way to help nurture a safe, caring and inclusive school environment. The Online Reporting Tool is intended for students in grades 3 – 8 who become aware of bullying incidents and negative behaviours. The student can simply ‘click’ on the link found on our school’s website to fill out the report. The report will then be directly emailed to the principal and vice‐principal to be dealt with accordingly. It is important to recognize that the Online Reporting Tool is an alternate reporting option. It is best practice to speak directly with a responsible adult at home and/or in the school. PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES ON BOARD PREMISES AND/OR BOARD SANCTIONED EVENTS FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES: The Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board acknowledges the value of the use of technology for learning. Students are permitted to register and use personal electronic devices (PEDs) on board premises and/or board sanctioned events for educational purposes, under the direction of staff and only with parent/guardian permission. Students may register their PED for the purpose of connecting to the board wireless network. Students are required to adhere to the student “Personal Electronic Device Used with WI‐FI Network Student Agreement” (GF 337) and the “Network User Application and Agreement.” (GF066) Please be advised that the Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board will not be responsible for any cost incurred through the use of personal data plans. PEDs are to be used responsibly and should not interfere with learning; their use must comply with the Catholic Code of Conduct, board policies and procedures. Any personal communications (i.e., phone calls, text messages, etc.) will continue to be directed through the main office. Failure to comply with these guidelines may result in a loss of PED privileges and/or any other consequences deemed necessary by school administration. The school principal may authorize limited acceptable uses of personal electronic devices during school‐sanctioned activities for a specific designated purpose outside of instructional spaces and/or in common areas. Students are responsible for the safety and security of PEDs at all times and the Board assumes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen devices. DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR THE WEATHER Now that the colder weather is upon us, we respectfully remind you to ensure that your children come to school dressed warmly to participate in recess activities. When weather conditions are severe we may reduce the outdoor play time, or have indoor recess entirely, but fresh air and exercise are vital components for successful learning, so we will endeavour to have children play outside whenever possible. Help your children by having them come to school appropriately dressed with scarves, hats and mittens. As well, all students should have indoor footwear at school. This is essential in case of an emergency evacuation. The students will not have time to change their footwear. We also recommend that students keep extra clothing such as socks and pants at school in case their original clothing gets wet. INDOOR/ OUTDOOR SHOES The students should have a pair of indoor shoes to wear at school in class and for gym. Outdoor shoes/ boots will be kept for outdoor use only and out of the classrooms in order to reduce the amount of dirt and mud brought indoors. This will assist our custodial staff in keeping the school clean. Thank you for your co‐operation. LATE ARRIVALS & EARLY DEPARTURES As in the past, we ask that you call the school on the days that your child will be absent or late. This is a safety precaution that can save precious moments should there ever be an emergency situation. We thank you for your continued support in following this procedure. If your child will be late or absent from school, it is very important that you notify the school before 9:00 a.m. by leaving a voice mail message on the attendance line at 905‐792‐
2268 and pressing 1, for the attendance voice mail. You should speak clearly and leave the child’s FIRST and LAST NAME, the teacher’s name, and the reason for the absence or lateness. Any student arriving at school late is required to come to the office to request a late slip. This allows us to change our attendance information, and mark your child late, rather than absent. It is very important that students arrive to school on time and ready to work, as late arrivals disrupt instructional activities and classroom routines. We respectfully request that whether students walk or are driven to school, that they are at school before the bell rings at 9:15 a.m. LUNCH HOUR During the lunch hour, all students who stay for lunch are expected to remain at school, and all students who go home for lunch are expected to go home for lunch. If there is a change in the regular lunch hour procedure for your child, parents/guardians are asked to provide the teacher with a note explaining the change. Student safety is essential at Cardinal Newman School. For this reason, students staying for lunch at school will not be permitted to go to the local plaza. We would like to remind you that the school is not equipped to provide lunches to students who are sent to school without a lunch. Please ensure that your child has a suitable lunch, every day. If you plan to deliver your child’s lunch to the school, please ensure that it is delivered before 12:10 p.m. and is left on the table outside the main office. LUNCHES BROUGHT TO THE OFFICE Please consider having your children bring their lunches with them in the morning as the Safe Schools Access Protocol may cause delays in your child receiving lunch. If you are bringing a lunch for your child to pick up from the office, please ensure that it is labelled with your child’s name, teacher’s name and room number. Please instruct your child to come to the front lobby and pick it up from the lunch table. In keeping your child’s safety at heart, students will not be permitted to go out of the building to get their lunches. In order to avoid interruptions to instructional time, students will not be called from class. PAPERLESS SNACKS/LUNCHES Students and staff are encouraged to be environmentally friendly by reducing the amount of paper and plastic waste from lunches and snacks. Last year we received GOLD level standing ECO school certification. Students will have an opportunity to eat snacks before or after recess. Wasps, bees and birds continue to be a problem in the schoolyard, thus snacks will not be permitted in the playground. SEVERE FOOD ALLERGIES Peanut and Other Life‐Threatening Allergies, Sabrina’s Law Anaphylaxis Reaction As we begin the new school year, we would like to inform you that Cardinal Newman School is an allergen‐aware school. There are pupils in attendance at our school who suffer from severe and life‐threatening allergies to certain foods, such as peanut and tree nut products. Exposure to the smallest quantities can cause severe and life‐
threatening reactions. Anaphylaxis is a severe and life threatening allergic reaction. The most common allergen triggers are food, insect stings, medications, exercise and latex. An anaphylactic reaction involves symptoms from two or more body systems. We require your continued cooperation in sending foods to school with your child that are free from peanuts, nuts or their by‐products, and nut‐substitute products. We cannot guarantee that any classroom is nut free, but we are attempting to minimize exposure and keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible. We appreciate your help and support in this important issue. We ask you to please refrain from sending birthday and special occasion edible treats into your child’s class. Instead, perhaps you could recognize a special event by sending in a non‐edible treat e.g., pencils, stickers, notebooks. Another alternative is to commemorate your child’s birthday by purchasing a book for donation to our school library. Should you wish to do so, we will be happy to place a sticker with a sentiment similar to: “Donated by Noah Brooks in honour of his 5th birthday on October 18th, 2015”. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding. If your child has been diagnosed with a severe allergy and you have not notified the school, please do so immediately. There are forms that must be completed. Please speak with our secretaries, Mrs. Cosentino and Mrs. Machado to obtain the requisite paperwork. Your continued cooperation in support of our efforts to create a safe and healthy learning environment for all is greatly appreciated! PIZZA AND SUBWAY LUNCHES Pizza Days continue to run on Tuesdays. The cost is $2.00. All profits from this fundraising initiative will go to support various school initiatives (classroom libraries, fees for tournaments, replace outdoor recess equipment, school presentations, etc.). With special thanks to Mrs. Dafoe for organizing Pizza days for our students. Mr. Sub is supplying our subs this year. We will have sub day on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Sub days for the 2015‐
2016 school year are March 24th, April 21st, May 19th, and June 16th. Order forms will be sent home each month. Please complete and submit order forms by the indicated due date on the form. With special thanks to Mrs. Machado for organizing sub days for our students. SNACK SHACK The Snack Shack is opened on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. With special thanks to Mrs. Cicione, Mrs. Caputo‐Rostami, Mr. Couto and Mrs. Rockwood for their generosity in supervising this program. HEAD INJURIES Even when it may appear to be insignificant, we are obliged to inform parents and guardians of all reported head injuries occurring at school. We do this in recognition of the potential danger of any injury involving the head area. Our interest is not to alarm you, but to keep you informed. Please remind your child to let a staff member know if they bump their head or if they get hurt at school. PEDICULOSIS – HEAD LICE Pediculosis is not considered a health problem because it is not a communicable disease. However, from time to time incidents of pediculosis occur in any school. It is recommended that parents inspect their children’s hair, especially if persistent itching and scratching of the scalp is noticed. Please inform the school if you discover an infestation. Your pharmacist may suggest treatment information. Remind your child that it is not appropriate to share other children’s combs and/or headgear, hats, etc. MEDICATION We have a number of students in the school with health conditions requiring specialized medication or supervision. In order for students to have access to medicine on a daily basis or for us to store medication in the school, your doctor MUST complete the required form. Please ask Mrs. Cosentino or Mrs. Machado for the GF035 should you wish for us to store your child’s prescription or doctor authorized medication. All medication of this sort is to be stored in the school office. We take this precaution so that medication does not fall into the wrong hands. If your child has a medical condition, please notify the school office. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS All volunteers having direct contact with students are required to provide a C.B.C. (Criminal Background Check). The new board policy has been expanded and includes volunteering on class trips, in classrooms, Catholic School Advisory Council, etc. If there are any community members wishing to volunteer, please visit the school office to pick up the necessary volunteer criminal reference check paperwork. EXCURSIONS AND FIELD TRIPS Classes occasionally take educational trips to extend learning opportunities in curriculum areas. Teachers need to follow appropriate Board procedures. A limited number of trips may be planned by teachers. By LAW the school must have on file permission forms, which must be signed by the parents/guardians. If, on the day of the excursion, your child has not returned his/her forms, and the parent/guardian cannot come into the school to sign the permission forms, the student will remain at the school. Students will be reminded by their teachers about this policy prior to the trip taking place. Staff will offer generous timelines for return of trip permission forms and funds in order that parents/guardians have significant opportunity to submit all paperwork and fees. PLASP CHILD CARE SERVICES PLASP Child Care Services operates Before and After School Programs at this school. The Before School Program operates from 7:30 a.m. until school begins. A nutritious breakfast is served daily. The After School Program runs from the end of the school day until 6:00 p.m. Children participate in recreational activities, are served a nutritious snack daily and have time for homework. Fee assistance is available for those who qualify. Visit www.plasp.com and register your child online today. PLASP operates Before and After School Programs at this school in Rooms 27 and 28. Those involved in this program must use the regular entrance doors for access to this program. Use of the classroom’s side door into the parking lot is prohibited for reasons of safety. MATCH FOR AARYAN On April 2, 2016, St. Joachim School will host a swab clinic in an effort to find a donor match for a student diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Please refer to the attached flyer for additional information. SCHOOL WEBSITE & EMAIL COMMUNICATION CANADA’S ANTI‐SPAM LEGISLATION On July 1, 2014, Canada’s Anti‐Spam Legislation (CASL) came into law. It prohibits the sending of commercial electronic messages, including e‐mails that encourage participation in a commercial activity, unless the sender has received the recipient’s consent prior to sending the message. The Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board and Cardinal Newman School require your consent to send any electronic messages which promote, advertise or offer for sale goods and services, such as, school photos or school fundraisers. If you are interested in receiving emails from the school, including the monthly newsletter, you may pick up a copy of Canada’s Anti‐Spam Legislation (C.A.S.L.) form from the main office, and return the completed form to your child’s teacher. You may withdraw your consent at any time by notifying the main office. Please visit our website at www.dpcdsb.org/CNEWM for the latest school information. DPCDSB is now on Twitter! WORKHOP SESSIONS
KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. Susan Williams, Psychologist
Parent’s Guide to Reducing Stress and
Increasing Resilience in Children
Dr. Williams is currently the Director of the
Halton Centre for Cognitive Therapy and
Stress Reduction in Oakville.
She
maintained an appointment for 8 years as
Assistant Professor (PT) in the
Department
of
Psychiatry
and
Behavioural Neurosciences at McMaster
University where she conducted research
on prevention and intervention with
anxious and depressed children, provided
treatment in the child, adolescent, and
adult hospital programs, and trained residents and interns in
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She has worked on the CBT
Unit at the former Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto (now
CAMH), at the Anxiety Treatment and Research Centre at St. Joseph’s
Healthcare in Hamilton, the Mood Disorders program at the former
Hamilton Psychiatric Hospital, the Adolescent Program and Eating
Disorders Clinic at McMaster University Medical Centre, and the Child
and Family Centre at Chedoke Hospital, Hamilton.
Children who are excessively stressed or anxious can underachieve
in school, have low self-esteem, be angry, sad and lonely, have
difficulty with schoolwork and have difficult family and peer
relationships. Parents have a significant impact on how well children
respond to stress and anxiety. Therefore, it is important that we, as
parents, teach ourselves healthy ways to deal with stress and anxiety
so we can pass on this knowledge to our children. We also need to
follow some fundamental parenting principles so children learn how
to self-regulate when stressed and anxious. Healthy habits learned
in childhood promote lifelong healthy habits and a happier and more
productive life.
This presentation will describe some reasons why children are more
stressed and anxious than before and help parents develop
resilience, reduce stress, improve their child’s overall well-being and
create a happier home. The presentation will be followed by a
question and answer period.
Keynote Address
9:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.
