Prayer for the New Year
Give us the kindness to hear with compassion,
To offer support, loving comfort and care.
Give us the courage to do what is needed,
The wisdom to choose what is right and most
fair.
Give us the vision to see what is possible.
Give us the faith that will help pave the way…
For a present that’s hopeful,
A future that’s peaceful,
Give us the heart to bring joy to each day.
Amen.
Principal’s Message

give thanks to God for His continued blessings.
We are called to be His light to others in the
world. Let our daily actions and words shine as
rays of hope to one another and to others.
A very special thank you to the St. Clare
community for your extraordinary generosity in
supporting the Advent Angel Tree and Share
Life! May God bless you with health and
happiness in 2016!

January Virtue - Self-Control / Conflict
is Inevitable, Bullying is Not
God has given us the ability to choose. We are
able to control how we react to what happens
around us. Through prayer and concentration
we can get better at controlling our reactions.
When we all use self-control, we can be sure
that our school will be a safe, caring and
inclusive place to live and learn. We would
appreciate your support in discussing this virtue
with your child and encouraging behaviours that
would demonstrate this virtue.
Striving for Excellence
January Virtue - Self-Control / Conflict is
Inevitable, Bullying is Not (continued):
A person with self-control…
 Is patient
 Knows how to wait his / her turn
 Can calm him / herself down and
think before reacting to situations
 Knows how to avoid physical
aggression
 Can think things through and do
what is best for everyone

Safe School Initiatives
Before School Hours Supervision
Supervision begins at 8:15 a.m. For your child’s safety, we
kindly request that he/she not be dropped off and left on school
property until supervision begins at 8:15 a.m.
Visitors to the School
By law, ALL visitors to the school must report to the main office
using the doorbell for entry as all doors are locked. Our first
priority for all students is their safety. Board and provincial
guidelines clearly outline the process that all visitors must follow
upon their arrival on school property, which begins with reporting
to the Main Office. You will be issued a Visitor Sticker which must
be worn visibly during your stay and sign in and sign out.
Attendance and Punctuality
All students are expected to attend school regularly and
punctually. In the event that your child will be late or absent,
please call the school and follow the prompts to leave a message.
This can be done 24 hours a day. For students who are absent
and for whom a call is not received, we will attempt to contact you.
PLEASE CALL: 905-820-2227 Press # 1
All students who arrive after 8:30 a.m. or
12:30 p.m. must obtain a Late Slip.
KISS and RIDE Safety
Kiss and Ride drop – off begins at 8:15 a.m. with supervisors
wearing orange safety vests. The lane along the sidewalk is
reserved for DROP-OFF and PICK-UP ONLY. Proceed to the
YELLOW post.
We respectfully ask that you do not leave your vehicle while in
this lane to avoid causing a traffic backup. Children are to exit
the car on the passenger side only with their backpacks ready.
A staff member is available to escort your Junior and / or Senior
Kindergarten child to the Kindergarten yard. Parking and getting
out of your car is not allowed anywhere upon entry into the school
(especially the north corner of the entrance near the Kindergarten
yard).
Your assistance and positive response to directions from staff
on duty in this area are greatly appreciated.
Striving for Excellence
Respect for Self, Respect for Others
As a staff, we continue to work together to provide example and
consistency in modeling Jesus’ message to our students. We
will assist and remind students of the importance of being
respectful and working together to create a safe, caring,
inclusive community.
R.A.I.D. Program with Peel Police
This term Peel Police will be visiting our school to present
information to our Grade 6 students. The program is designed
to prevent substance abuse and enhance decision making and
refusal skills. The lessons will be facilitated by a Police Officer
with follow-up by the teacher.
Annual Scholastic Book Fair
It’s that time again! The St. Clare Annual Scholastic Book Fair
is coming! February 1st – 4th.
The book fair will begin with students having a scheduled
browsing time on February 1st and 2nd. Students will have an
opportunity to preview some of the many titles available during
that time.
Beginning on February 3rd and continuing through the 4th,
students can make their purchases during the school day as
Book Fair Volunteers will be available to assist them. The book
fair will also remain open during the interview evening of
Thursday, February 4th. We thank you for your support and look
forward to seeing you there!
Parents are welcome to visit the Book Fair on Thursday
February 4, 2015 beginning at 3:10 p.m.
Activities
Youth Faith Ambassadors
Our Youth Faith Ambassadors have been very busy
throughout the month of December. We thank them for
creating the beautiful angels for our Angel Tree! Many thanks
to our staff for leading our students –Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Monk
and Mrs. McDonald.
Our energy conservation program is continuing from previous
years, so continue to wear sweaters and dress appropriately for
the weather. The warmer we dress, the less heat we will require.
We are also continuing to encourage reusable water bottles as
opposed to plastic. Our monitoring continues to suggest that the
amount of reusable water bottles is continuing to increase
throughout our school. Our next goal is to decrease the amount
of waste that we produce. Under the leadership of our EcoTeam, classes will observe how using reusable containers
instead of individually wrapped servings will help eliminate
waste. An Eco School is Eco Cool!
Snow Stays on the Ground
With the arrival of winter there will be snow and ice on the ground.
In order for our school to be as safe as possible for all students,
the school rule is that snow stays on the ground – snowballs,
kicking snow or any other activity with snow or ice that could be
harmful is not permitted. Please remind your children to stay off
snow banks and ice patches and to reinforce the dangers of
pushing others on snow and ice. By following these safety rules,
they can help prevent someone from seriously getting hurt.
Students are encouraged to constructively use the snow to build
snowmen, forts and sculptures. Please assist us by reviewing
with your child these safety rules. Together, we will create a
schoolyard which is safe for all during the winter season.
Winter Dress Reminder
It is imperative that all students come to school ready to
participate in all activities, including outdoor recess. Please
ensure that your child(ren) come to school with hats, scarves,
gloves, winter outerwear and boots. As well, all students should
have indoor footwear at school. This is essential in case of an
emergency evacuation, as students will not have time to put on
their boots if they need to evacuate the school in a hurry.
Anaphylaxis Reaction Reminder
As there are a number of students in our school who have a
severe life threatening allergy to nuts, we ask our families to
refrain from sending to school any food, etc. that contains nut
products (i.e. peanut butter sandwiches, snacks with nuts, etc.).
While we cannot guarantee a “Nut Free” or “Allergen
Free” environment, you can help to reduce the risk to our
students by not sending in peanuts, nuts of any kind, products
containing nuts, nut oil, or nut by-products, foods that MAY have
come in contact with nuts or nut products and fast food or
commercial snacks where unclear (i.e. Timbits). Thank you.
Criminal Reference Check Reminder
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has
implemented changes to their Criminal Reference Check /
Declaration Form procedure. This change has been in effect
since September 1, 2013.
In accordance with the Safe Schools Act, all volunteers,
including those going on school trips, driving students to
sports events, assisting with fundraisers, being a member
of our Catholic School Council, and / or dealing with children
in any capacity, must have a Criminal Reference Check.
Please contact the Main Office for a Criminal Reference Check
Form for Volunteers (2013 – 2014). There is no cost.
