Prayer for Easter
Christ is Risen!
The simplicity and sacrifice of Lent is over.
We can relax and enjoy the glory of Jesus and
the share He has given us in the Resurrection.
The natural world reflects this joy.
Easter time is about new life.
We celebrate new life with the symbols of
eggs, rabbits, chicks, flowers, green grass and
butterflies. We rejoice that new members of our
parish entered the life of our church when they
were baptized and
confirmed at the Easter Vigil.
All of us nourish the life of God when we share
in the Easter sacrament of the Eucharist. And
so we sing over and over,
“ALLELUIA, PRAISE GOD!”

APRIL VIRTUE
Love / We All Want to Feel Included
This month we will celebrate the Virtue of Love.
God has given us many guidelines and
examples of how to live our lives. He sent His
Son Jesus to make sure that we could see what
life could be like. Jesus made one lesson clear
– the lesson to love. Love is not about us.
It is about forgetting ourselves and looking out
for the good of the other. We would appreciate
your support in discussing this virtue with your
child and encouraging behaviours that would
demonstrate this virtue.

Catholic Education Week: “Exploring Paths of Joy”
Catholic schools are Catholic communities. Catholic schools
are faith communities. We – parents, students, teachers,
administrative and support staff – walk and grow together in
the faith which we received at our Baptism. And it is the
“together” that we grow. Our growth is primarily a relationship
with God, who at our Baptism, called us by name. But the
response of each of us to that growth is both personal and
communal. We grow in our faith in the nurturing atmosphere
of our Catholic community be that of our local parish, our home
or our Catholic school community.
Our school community will celebrate Catholic Education Week,
May 3-8, 2015. Five sub-themes, one for each of the five
days of Catholic Education Week 2015 are:
Monday – Walking Together and Sharing our Story
Tuesday – Opening the Scriptures
Wednesday – Welcoming Others to the Table
Thursday – Recognizing Jesus in the Breaking of the Bread
Friday – Proclaiming the Good News
Activities and Events…continued
Basketball
Congratulations to the St. Clare Jr. Basketball teams for their
great success throughout their season. Both the Boy’s and the
Girl’s teams qualified for the family tournament.
St. Clare was represented with team members who displayed
a great deal of sportsmanship, positive attitude and a passion
for the game. The boys worked hard and did their best as they
went up against some of our neighbouring schools. Their
determination showed as they were fierce competitors. The
girls competed hard against their opponents and continued to
show sportsmanship throughout their games.
The Boys Team members included: Paul D., Michael M., Odi
N., Duop R., Ajeet D., Sam R., Brandon Z., Sean D., Sam W.,
Kamil S.
The Girls Team members included: Jorgia B., Jillian J.
Nicole J., Nicole R., Nicole K., Leen H., Eliana R., Althea G.
More information will follow in our May Newsletter.

With the beginning of nicer weather, students who ride their
bicycles to school are asked to park and lock their bicycles
along the fence at the Kindergarten yard. Thank you.
Activities and Events…

Congratulations to the Starfish, the champions of St. Clare's first

Eco Angels: Shepherds of a Greener Earth
For 2 weeks in April and leading up to Earth Day on April 22nd,
St. Clare will be having a daily environmental focus. This is a
way to bring about awareness and understanding to a number
of different issues that affect our planet and our population. For
each focus there will be related lessons and resources available
for teachers to use with their classes. Everyone is encouraged
to participate. It can be as simple as having a conversation,
walking to school, using reusable water bottles/containers,
turning off unnecessary lights and so on. Thank you for your
support with this initiative. Thank you also to Mr. Murphy and
Mrs. Grattan for their leadership and work with our Eco Angels.
Our focus during these 2 weeks is as follows:
April 13 – Water Conservation
April 14 – Healthy Snacks
April 15 – Litterless Lunch
April 16 – Energy Conservation
April 17 – Consumerism/Product packaging
April 20 – Walking to School
April 21 – Waste Reduction
April 22 – Earth Day!

Are You Moving?
We are beginning the process of planning classes and staffing
for September 2015. If you are planning to move between now
and September, we would appreciate that you would inform the
school as soon as possible. Thank you!
Planning Ahead – Student Placement for September
In arriving at the decision of placement of your child for the
upcoming school year, every consideration is given to individual
needs. This decision is made in collaboration with all staff who
have been directly involved in your child’s education this year.
If you feel that there are specific needs which should be
addressed in determining the placement of your child, please
write us a letter to advise us. We ask that all submissions be
sent to the office by Friday April 24, 2015. Your request will
be considered at our grade promotion meetings. We remind you
that it is not appropriate to request a specific teacher as
placements are subject to change. However, if there is other
information regarding your child’s learning style or other
considerations of which we need to be aware, please advise us
of these facts in your letter. No letters will be accepted after this
date.
Volunteers are very much appreciated by staff and students at
St. Clare School. Board policy states that volunteers that come
into regular contact with students must have a Criminal
Reference check completed through Peel Police. If you plan to
volunteer for trips, driving students or helping students in the
school, please drop by the office to pick up a form. An annual
Criminal Declaration must be completed on a yearly basis for all
volunteers.
STUDENT MONITORS NEEDED
We are in need of Lunch Time Student Monitors for our school
who will be called on an emergency basis when our regular
monitors are absent. This position requires the Monitor to act as
a supervisor of students during indoor lunch eating periods and
outdoor recess times. In order to be eligible, you must be
between the ages of 18 and 65 and have a valid Criminal
Reference Check authorized by The Dufferin Peel Catholic
District School Board. The scheduled hours of work are set at
1.2 hours (72 minutes) per day, over the lunch hour. This is a
paid position. To be considered for this position please contact
the school Principal at the school location that you wish to work
at for more information.
INDOOR SHOES
With the long winter and the unpredictable temperatures our
schoolyard conditions are often slippery, wet or muddy. When
conditions on the field are dangerous or too wet, we close the
field at recess. When the weather improves and the field
becomes dry, it will be open and available for student use.
Students are expected to come dressed appropriately for the
weather (water boots, change of pants, etc.)
For health and safety reasons, students must wear indoor
shoes in class, in the hallways and throughout the school.
Students cannot walk through the school with wet boots or
shoes. For their safety and comfort they need to have
indoor shoes. Please note that in the event of an emergency
evacuation, students will not have the opportunity to put
boots on.
Catholic School Council Update
Our next council meeting will be Thursday May 14, 2015 at
7:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
We thank you for your continued support and generosity in
helping to make our students’ learning experiences the best
that they can be!
Future Meeting Dates: 7:00 p.m.

The Online Reporting Tool
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School board has developed
a new way to help nurture a safe, caring and inclusive school
environment. The Online Reporting Tool is intended for students
in grades 3 – 8 who become aware of bullying incidents and
negative behaviours. The student can simply ‘click’ on the link
found on our school’s website to fill out the report. The report will
then be directly emailed to the principal and/or vice principal and
will be dealt with accordingly.
It is important to recognize that the Online Reporting Tool is an
alternate reporting option. It is best practice to speak directly
with a responsible adult at home and/or in the school.
