MIDDLESEX CHAPTER Bulletin2014 In Support Of Brandeis University SUMMER A NDY B ERKE FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT It’s been my great pleasure to serve as President this year. We had a snowy start to our Winter Bulletin’s activities but I think you will find that those cancelled events have been re-scheduled. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful group of women on our Board. They had to do a lot of “pitching in” to be sure that events went on smoothly. Special thanks to Helen Divak, Thelma Wilkofsky & Eleanor Edelstein. Our Book & Author luncheon was a rousing success. We had a robust turnout, a lovely meal and a spectacular presentation by author Alyson Richman. Kudos go to Anne Paszamant and her team. The proceeds from the luncheon went to the Sustaining the Mind campaign. The chapter also made a contribution to STM in memory of long-time Board Member, Sylvia Koss. Note that proceeds from several activities in this bulletin are designated as Sustaining the Mind events. I wish Linda Gershen & Caryl Distel much success & love as they take the reins of the presidency. We look forward to their leadership, and we encourage you to join the leadership team. INCOMING CO-PRESIDENTS’ MESSAGE FALL CARYL DISTEL (L) LINDA GERSHEN (R) Overheard on a Brandeis trip: “Every day I choose to be happy.” How lucky we are to lead a group of strong, intelligent, friendly and caring women! How lucky we are to belong to Brandeis National Committee— an organization that reflects the values of Brandeis University: • Academic excellence that parallels our life-long love of learning, evidenced by fundraising efforts to support Brandeis libraries, scholarships and fellowships; • Social justice that parallels our award-winning program and demonstrates the value of service to the community; • Research, particularly “Sustaining the Mind”, which seeks a cure for neurodegenerative diseases that parallels our commitment to searching for ways to improve the lives of our members and others. How lucky we are to be the Middlesex Chapter with: • Women who have similar interests and shared values • Leaders who work to plan and implement stimulating activities • Members who look forward to and appreciate the myriad study groups, trips and special events revealed in our Bulletins How lucky we are that like-minded women seek out and join our chapter with fresh ideas and a willingness to contribute by being active and involved, thereby helping us grow. How lucky we are to have strangers become friends, who enjoy the good times with us and hold our hands in the not so good times. See you at Hot Topics! Every day let us choose to be happy as we move forward together.
