Advent is a time to celebrate light in the midst of darkness, as symbolized best by the Advent wreath. Father Steve will celebrate our Advent mass on Monday, December 10th at 1:00pm at the church (weather permitting). We invite and encourage all parents to join us for our Advent mass. Expect the best to happen for everyone Hold on to their dreams Always count on God to help them in tough situations Trust that things will work out in God‟s way. Look for something good to come out of problems Are looking forward to life‟s blessings Set and stick to their own goals. Page 2 of 4 Good Shepherd Catholic School Junior Boys Volleyball A great, big congratulation goes out to this year‟s Junior Boys‟ and Girls‟ Volleyball Team. The students worked hard and showed great determination throughout the season. They played very well at the tournament and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, both with their teammates, as well as with the opposing teams. These students made their coaches very proud! Primary Intramurals A non-competitive intramural program will begin in the new year for our younger students. Look for a letter to be coming home in January to sign up to play sports and activities over the lunch hour. This Is How We Go Green! The Good Shepherd‟s Green Team is working hard to implement and continue all of our green initiatives. They have been conducting energy checks to ensure that all lights are turned off when no one is in the classroom, as well as recycle bin checks to make sure that students are using these bins appropriately. In November, representatives from Brampton Clean City came to Good Shepherd to provide each class with a Litterless Lunch presentation. We hope to encourage all students to use reusable water bottles and containers for their lunches so that we can minimize the amount of waste generated here at Good Shepherd. You are welcome to come and see our bulletin board in the front foyer of the school for further information about how you can help keep Good Shepherd an Eco-Friendly School. The day began with a presentation from Rising Stars, followed by classroom activities and discussions about Bullying. We learned a lot about how we can together make a difference and create a peaceful community. On Wednesday we wore our clothes backwards to show that we will „always have each other‟s backs‟. On Thursday we wore two different shoes to „appreciate others differences‟ and to feel how it is to walk in another‟s shoes. On Friday we ended our week off by wearing our pajamas to school to put „Bullying to rest‟! We learned a variety of strategies so that we can together “Be the Change”. The teachers and their students together reflected on what they learned from the week‟s events and wrote down what they want to see at Good Shepherd and in their community. Together we created the wall mural in the picture below. We are very proud to say we have taken a step towards creating a safe and peaceful environment at our school. Although Bullying Awareness week has concluded, the awareness should never end. “Peace I leave you, my peace I give you.” – John 14:27 Student Council December Letter Merry Christmas Good Shepherd! A decision to cancel school transportation and/or to close schools is usually made by 6:00 a.m. and will be announced on the following radio and television stations: VIRGIN RADIOFM99.9 CHUM AM1050 CFTR AM680 CFNY FM102.1/AM640 CJCL AM590 CHFI FM98.1 CFRB AM1010 EZ ROCK FM97.3 CJBC (FR) AM860 FM Z103.5 FM93.1 FM Q107 CHIN FM100.7/AM1540 CBC99.1 CITYPULSE GLOBAL NEWS CTV Kiss ’N’ Ride Update With the weather getting colder and the snow coming soon, it is apparent that more students are being driven to school. With the additional vehicles using Kiss „N‟ Ride it becomes imperative that parents have patience and follow the expectations for all drivers. Parents are reminded that unless you have parked in one of the spaces in our parking lot no one else should be getting out of their vehicle and going to drop off or pick up their child. We are also reminding you that no vehicle should stop in the drive through or bus lane to pick up or drop off their children. This is very dangerous and blocks the lane for those cars exiting. On most nights it is taking 5 to 6 minutes to empty the Kiss „N‟ Ride program. Considering the number of vehicles coming through the parking lot that is a good time. Thank you for your support and patience regarding this matter. We would also like to thank the parents that choose to walk to school, or drop off their children, for your understanding and cooperation in dropping off the students and waiting in the parents‟ areas of the school (behind the black fence and behind on the pylons on the west side of the school). All visitors to the school, including the school yard need to sign in at the office before entering the school for the safety and well being of all the students. MERRY CHRISTMAS! ALL OF US AT GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC SCHOOL WISH YOU A BLESSED, PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
