MINUTES PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COUNCIL Wednesday, September 13, 2006 – 3:30 pm Tate Page Hall 131 Members present: Retta Poe, presiding as Chair for Sam Evans. Paige Birkholz, Jane Brantley, Thandi Buthelezi, Thad Crews, Janice Ferguson, Barb Kacer, Grace Lartey, Cynthia Mason, Alice Mikovch, Carl Myers, Les Pesterfield, Alex Poole, Beverly Siegrist, Doris Sikora, Sharon Spall (for Chris Wagner), Robyn Swanson, Carol Wilkerson (alternate members present- Nathan Love and Sherry Powers) Retta Poe called the meeting to order. The minutes from the June 14, 2006 meeting were approved as they appear on the web. New Business From the Office of Teacher Services Presentation of Candidates Completing Requirements for Admission to the Professional Education Unit—June 14, 2006 through September 13, 2006. Alice Mikovch moved approval of the candidates/seconded by Alex Poole. After Council members reviewed the list, the motion passed. From the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences – Department of Curriculum and Instruction Proposal to Revise a Program-Elementary Education. There was a motion to approve by Janice Ferguson seconded by Robyn Swanson. Toby Daniel was present to explain about this revision. The motion to approve passed. Other Business for information only was as follows: The Dean’s Office in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences approved a one-time course offering for IECE 591-Seminar in IECE for the Summer 2006 semester. The Dean’s Office in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences has approved a one-time course offering for the following two courses for Fall 2006 semester: EDU 524-Educational Assessment IECE 592 – Curriculum/Instruction in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education The discussion concerning documenting course substitutions on degree programs was postponed until the next meeting so that Dr. Evans could participate.
