Communications and Online Resources
Calvin College has three mailing lists to which you are automatically subscribed:
 Calvin-News comes out at least once a day and is intended for general news items related to Calvin College
faculty and staff. The Calvin-News listserv is managed by Human Resources. When the HelpDesk posts
important information to Calvin-News, it will always contain the heading “CIT:….” and be from the address citnotify@calvin.edu
 Calvin-SOS e-mails are sent out only for unplanned emergencies. Occasionally these emergencies will affect
technology, such as an unplanned power outage.
 CIT uses a mailing list called CIT-Alert. CIT-Alert is sent out only when necessary to alert faculty and staff of
planned or unplanned computer or telecommunication outages or other time-sensitive technology related
outages.

All students are subscribed to Student-News. This digest comes out at least once a day and is intended for
general news items related to Calvin College students. Information to be included in Student-News should be
sent to student-news@calvin.edu. This mailing list is managed by Student Life.
Calvin-Matters is a mailing lists used to discuss matters pertinent to Calvin College. To receive this mailing list
you must subscribe to it. For additional information about subscribing/unsubscribing and using Calvin mailing

Moodle@calvin.edu is a mailing list intended for faculty and staff who use Moodle and would like to share tips
and tricks and offer each other assistance with using and developing Moodle courses. To subscribe, visit

I.T. Connection
The I.T. Connection is an online newsletter published by CIT. When a new I.T. Connection article is published, a
reminder and link will be included in Calvin-News. The I.T. Connection is often used to relay non-emergency information
regarding significant changes, upgrades, or down-times for CIT services. It can be viewed at

Maintenance Blog
The Maintenance Blog announces all planned outages or upgrades for network services or desktop environments (PC
and Mac). The latest changes are described within the body of the blog. On the right side are archives for all
network/server changes and desktop software changes. To view the maintenance blog, visit

A to Z Index
CIT maintains an extensive web site detailing various policies, service level agreements, training and troubleshooting
documentation, and web forms. The easiest way to navigate CIT’s web page is to use the A to Z Index. Most services are
cross-listed for easy access. For example you can find information about GroupWise e-mail listed under “GroupWise”,
“E-mail”, and “Novell GroupWise.” The A to Z Index is available on CIT’s home page, http://www.calvin.edu/it
Atomic Learning
Atomic Learning is an online technology training library that provides thousands of short video tutorials on the most
commonly used software applications, including those used by Calvin and provided to faculty and staff. Calvin College
has a campus subscription to Atomic Learning which means all Calvin faculty, staff, and students have access to this
resource. Atomic Learning can be accessed through Moodle, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Log into
Moodle (http://moode.calvin.edu) and click the Atomic Learning link located in the Support box at the bottom of every
Moodle page.
