AstroCappella: The Sun Song
The Chromatics are an a capella group of astronomers and educators that
have created a series of songs, as well as activities to promote astronomy. For
more information, go to www.astrocapella.com. Their CD is filled with fun and
informative songs, including The Sun Song. The lyrics are provided on the first
page, and on the following page are the lyrics with some words removed.
As a possible activity, students could be given the incomplete lyrics before
listening to the song. They would try to fill in the words as best they could, and
then listen to the song to find out if they are correct. The song can be used as a
form of review before an exam, and you could ask students to make notes of
things they had learned while the song is playing.
You’ll get a variety of reactions about the song itself and its style, but one
thing is for sure. You’ll all have the song stuck in your head for the rest of the
day!
