Abstract ID: 17271 Title: The Role of Medical Ultrasound in Research Ultrasound imaging has seen numerous advancements over the past decade with regards to spatial resolution, application and technique, and integration into other imaging modalities. The real-time nature of ultrasound gives it a unique ability among other complimentary imaging technologies, and allows medical practitioners and researchers to implement and discover new techniques in the lab or at patient-side. The advent of open-architecture ultrasound equipment, combining a programmable hardware engine with the flexibility of writing software and algorithms on a standard PC has allowed researchers to harness the ability to discover these new techniques in an open environment where vendor lock-down has been removed. Some of the devices on the forefront of ultrasound technology include those built upon the OpenSONIX architecture, an ultrasound platform developed over the past decade with research and open capabilities in mind.
