When they say I don’t remember you can use the information in the newsletter to guide answers. My newsletter, along with many other resources can be located on my web site. The Ohio Department of Education has updated the preschool standards. Our Westlake team has taken these standards and placed them into themes/program of study. We also incorporated the International Baccalaureate program of inquiry into this document. Our Westlake Early Education Program of Study is available on my teacher website. If you would like a personal copy to reference let me know. For those parents who are new to the program, each week we focus on different standards that fit with our classroom theme. There are some standards that are worked on throughout the school year. If you have any questions at all about standards please ask. Week of: October 12-14th 19th -22nd Down on The Farm PM~ Letter Tt & Ii Sensory Table: beans, rice, measuring cups, spoons & bowls. IB How the World Works~ An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; Central Idea: Environmental relationships change over time. Key Concepts: change, causation Related Concepts: patterns, similarities/differences, sequences Lines of inquiry: Changes in nature How people respond to changes People’s responsibilities for the environment Attributes: Inquirer: seasons, day/night, environment Principled: responsibility in natural environment and community Thinker: planning for seasonal changes, acquisition of knowledge Attitudes: Appreciation Curiosity Independence Transdisciplinary Skills: Thinking: acquisition of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, application Research: observing, planning, formulating questions, interpreting The Ohio Department of Education has developed standards appropriate for preschool children. These standards are incorporated throughout our day. Standards are always a part of our circle, craft and snack activities.
