VIRTUE OF THE MONTH: Self-Control
God wants us to do what we know and feel is right.
A person with self-control: Is patient ; Knows how to wait his/her turn; Can calm him/herself down and
think before reacting to situations; Knows how to avoid physical aggression; Can think things through.
Self-Control helps us to resist the temptation to so something that we will regret. It also helps us to resist
the temptation to do something that will harm ourselves or others. Each time you exercise self-control,
you grow stronger in the Lord and invite peace to settle over your life.

PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT DAYS
Cold Weather
With the arrival of colder weather, students are reminded
to dress appropriately (hats, mitts, boots, etc.) and to wear
all clothing that they came to school in when they go out
for recess. We recommend that clothing is labelled for our
primary students, so that we can easily identify who owns
what. During the winter season it is generally accepted in
Dufferin—Peel that when the wind chill factor drops below
–25 C, students should not go outside for recess.
Cold and Flu Season
Please use discretion in keeping your children home to
recover if they are ill. A child who is coughing, wheezing,
etc. is not in a state to learn and will only infect others. If a
student is sent to school, it is assumed that they will
participate in all aspects of the school day, including
outdoor recess. We do not provide individual indoor
supervision. We also remind parents to dress students for
our weather conditions. We will be having outdoor recess,
weather permitting, as much as possible. At all times, we
follow the Board guidelines for inclement weather. The
students enjoy going out, especially if they have their
snowsuits, hats and mittens.

PARENTS/ADULTS IN THE SCHOOL YARD
It is difficult for the staff supervising in the schoolyard, to distinguish between parents and strangers. We are asking for your
cooperation in dropping the students off during the supervised times of 8:15am and 3:00pm, and letting them be with their
friends. With only staff in the schoolyard, the easier it is to identify a stranger in the yard. Once students are in the school,
parents are encouraged to leave school property as soon as possible so that the students are not distracted from classroom
activities. During the school day, there should be no parents in the schoolyard area at all. Parent may wait along the
Kindergarten fenced area – south yard- before school /end of day. If your child is late, please bring him/her to the Office.
There should not be any parents in the halls or classrooms without prior knowledge of the Office during school hours.
Parent volunteers will sign in and receive a visitor’s badge. It is a matter of safety. Thank you for your co-operation.

October 28, 2015 Dear Parent/Guardian: RE: 2016 REGISTRATION FOR EXTENDED FRENCH Any student who is eligible to attend a Dufferin‐Peel Catholic school and who is presently a Grade 4 student is eligible to enroll in the Extended French program for Grade 5 in September, 2016. The Dufferin‐Peel Catholic District School Board offers the Extended French program at the schools listed on the reverse side. Transportation is provided for eligible students in the program if they attend the centre designated for their region. (Both transportation and Extended French Centre locations are subject to board annual review and therefore subject to change.) The Extended French program starts in Grade 5 with 50% of the program taught in French. The subjects taught in French are: French Language, Social Studies, Science and one of Visual Arts, Music, Drama or Physical Education. The grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 Extended French programs lead into Extended French at the secondary level. There is a sequence of four courses in Extended French Language Arts and another three courses taught in French (Géographie in Grade 9, Histoire in Grade 10 and Les Grandes Religions in Grade 11). In order to obtain a certificate in Extended French, successful completion of all seven credits is required. This program offers an excellent opportunity for becoming functionally bilingual in later years and has been found to be very successful. Over 300,000 students are enrolled in Extended French or French Immersion annually across Canada. More detailed information will be available at parents/guardians meetings to be held at all Extended French locations. The dates are listed on the reverse side. Please mark these dates on your calendar. SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION Completed applications, containing all required documentation, will be accepted at the Extended French school office over a period of two weeks following the parent/guardian information meeting, up to a deadline of 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Parents/guardians will be expected to complete the requirements of obtaining signatures and comments through contact with the classroom and FSL teaching staff and the school administration. The student wishing admission will also continue to participate in the process through submission of his/her section, stating why Extended French is his/her wish. In this way, participation in Extended French will continue to be through an informed choice. A copy of the application will be given to the parents/guardians at the time of submission. There will be no numbering of applications. LOTTERY PROCESS A lottery will be held at a pre‐determined and advertised date if, and only if, the number of applications received at the school exceeds the places available. In other cases, all children will be placed. Parents/guardians are urged to attend the Information Meetings or to contact the principal of the Extended French school for more details.
