We, the community of
St. Leonard, are committed to life-long
learning and respect
for God’s creation.
We will nurture our
unique gifts and entrust each member to
serve.
Parent Council will
meet on Thursday,
September 16th at
6:45 in the library.
All are welcome.
As the TV commercial reminds us “it’s the
most wonderful time of the year!” The relaxing summer holidays are now behind us
as we once again gather as a community of
students , parents, teachers and church continue on the journey of valued education
here at St. Leonard.
We open our doors and welcome many new
children and their families. They will soon
come to know how great a school community we truly are. We also welcome some
new members to our staff and some new
teaching opportunities to some existing staff
for the journeys of learning and teaching are
always changing.
I wish to invite all of our parents to our
Open House and BBQ being held on Tuesday, October 5th. This will be a great opportunity to start the relationship and valuable communication between teacher and
parent which will lead to great outcomes for
our students.
It is hard to believe that we are now entering our twenty fifth year of existence of our
School. We will be preparing for a beautiful
celebration to honour this very important
milestone with details coming soon. Be that
as it may the many cherished traditions established by our school community will
continue and many new ones will start as
we set forth in this new school year. My
sincere thanks to the warm welcome I have
received as your new principal.

The Dufferin-Peel C.D.S.B. offers an extensive program in International Languages, providing instruction in 24 languages at 22 schools in Dufferin-Peel,
for students from JK to grade 12. It is a wonderful
opportunity for our children to expand language
skills. This program will be of interest to those who:
already have a working knowledge of a language
which may be spoken and home and wish to learn
more, and
those who have no prior knowledge, but wish to
learn a new language.
The elementary program (JK-8) runs from September 11 through June 4 each Saturday (Sundays at
St. Herbert) from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.. Parents who
wish to register their child in this program may attend a walk-in registration at the school which
offers the language of interest to them, on
Saturdays (Sundays at St. Herbert) from 9:00 to
11:30 a.m., beginning September 11. Registrations
are continuous (space permitting) throughout the
school year. This program is available to students

September 2010
To Parents of Students in our Publicly Funded Catholic Schools:
I hope that the summer break has provided an opportunity for you to enjoy some rest,
relaxation and quality family time. As the new academic year is upon us, I want to
take a moment to share some brief thoughts for reflection.
I wish to thank you for saying “YES” to Catholic education, a cherished gift in our
province that has a rich tradition of nearly 170 years. One third of Ontario’s students
attend publicly funded Catholic schools. In our Archdiocese, classrooms in more
than 500 schools bring together a diverse family of 270,000 students, inspired by our
faith, and following the example of Christ in work and play. Your engagement in the
life of your school and parish plays a critical role in strengthening the entire community. For all that you do, be assured of my gratitude.
I would also like to ask for your assistance in continuing to strengthen the close relationship of parish, home and school that is so significant in the faith formation of our
young people. We cannot underestimate the profound impact each one of us can play
in the process. I continue to be inspired by the people I meet - parents sharing with
their children faith traditions passed down over generations, schools mobilizing to
assist the vulnerable, students excelling in academics and extra curricular activities in short, a family working together, inspired by our Gospel call to serve one another.
I also wish to draw your attention to our upcoming municipal elections, to be held on
Monday, October 25, 2010. As we elect local councillors and school board trustees, I
strongly encourage you to become engaged in this important democratic process. We
know that municipal elections have a traditionally low voter turnout, and yet those
elected to office will directly impact our day to day activities with important decisions
on everything from public transit to garbage collection, recreation centres to our
school boards.
It is particularly important that Catholics be registered as supporters of our publicly
funded Catholic schools so that they can vote for our Catholic School Trustees. This
role is immensely important for the good of Catholic education, and I urge you to assess the candidates very carefully. On October 25th, I encourage you to vote for a candidate who will worthily and effectively fulfil the vitally important mission of stewardship in Catholic education that is entrusted to each Catholic School Trustee.
May Our Lord abundantly bless you and your family.
