Junior and Senior Kindergarten Registration
for 2009-10
The Power of An Hour! Be an In-School Mentor!
Make a difference in the life of a child in as little as
one hour a week by volunteering to be an InSchool Mentor. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel in
partnership with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District
School Board matches elementary girls and boys
with a caring adult mentor. Matches meet for one
hour each week from September – June during
school hours and on school property to share in fun
activities such as playing board games, baking or
playing sports. The result – increased self esteem,
better grades and improved relationships with family and peers.
Children are in need of mentors in our schools and
we need your help. You can make a significant
difference by volunteering or encouraging your
friends and family to mentor a child in a school in
their neighborhood.
The In-School Mentoring Program is currently
offered in 25 DPCDSB schools across Peel. Call
905-457-7288 or visit www.bbbspeel.com for more

P.A. Day
Monday, November 16th is a
Professional Development day.
Teachers will be working on
report cards. There is no school
for students on this day.

Homework Tip for November
Develop a positive attitude:
It is important that family members come
to an agreement on the positive value of
homework. Gaining this consensus sets
the stage for a successful learning environment within the home. Remember...the attitude you express about
homework will be the attitude your child
acquires.
Monthly Virtues
Each month students learn, pray about
and celebrate our Catholic Virtues and
learn to live them each day of their
lives. To date, we have learned about
the Virtues of Faith and Empathy. In
November we will learn about the Virtue of Conscience. We’ll learn about
how a person of conscience chooses to
do the right thing and feels good about
it, can see how his/her actions may hurt
others, admits wrong-doing and feels
badly, says sorry and tries to make up
for mistakes and keeps promises.
Visitors in the School – School Safety
All visitors including parents and former students must check in at the main office
before proceeding to any other area of the school. If you bring a lunch or book to
school, we request that you leave it at the school office with your child’s name on
it. If you are picking up your child at school, we ask that you report to the office if
the pick up is during the school day. If it is a regular dismissal, please wait outside the appropriate exit doors of the building to avoid disruption of classroom routines. Cooperation in following these routines helps ensure our student’s safety.
Medication At School
Please be advised that for safety reasons, no child should bring any form of medication
to school without prior approval from the office. The school will store necessary medication if a Request Form has been filled out and signed by the parent/guardian and your family
physician. Forms are available in the office.

Pediculosis (Head Lice)
Pediculosis is a problem which occurs from time to time each year in
schools If cases are found we inform all parents of the class involved by letter. If a child is infected, we request that she/
he be kept out of school until she/he has been
treated with the correct medicated shampoo.
Please keep us informed if this happens to
your child.
Please note that except when the winter weather
is extremely cold or wet, students will be expected to go outside during recess and lunch
breaks. Exceptions will be considered only with
a doctor’s note. Most children who are too ill to
go outside should be resting at home and not
exposing others to germs. Students should
come dressed appropriately to go
outdoors, which includes hats,
boots, scarves and gloves. As rainy
and winter weather approaches, we
remind everyone to bring an extra
pair of running shoes to be kept at
school for classroom and gym use.
St. Leonard Church—Christmas
Bazaar
St. Leonard Church will be hosting
their annual Christmas bazaar on
Saturday, November 14th in the
parish hall between 9:30 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. Their will be raffles, crafts, gifts,
baked goods and a silent auction. Also back this
year is the “Reptilian Room” (Photo opportunities available).
Inclement Weather
On Tuesday, October 27, St. Leonard's new
Environmental Club organized by Mrs. J. Kennett, welcomed Andrew Stangherlin, Recreation Programmer - Environmental Stewardship,
from the City of Brampton for a presentation.
The enthusiastic club members discussed their
goals and objects with Andrew. It is clear the
students want to become Environmental experts so they can educate other students, teachers and the community about ways we can all help our planet. Andrew, and his team at the City
of Brampton, will be helping St. Leonard's new 60 member "Green Team" with many projects
throughout the year including poster campaigns, announcements and a spring bulb campaign.
Report Cards and Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences
We remind everyone that November 16, 2009 is a P. A. Day, being used by all teachers to complete
first term student evaluations and to work on report card completion for Grades 1 to 8 (no classes for
students). First term report cards will be send home on December 1st. The reports will be sent in an
envelope and we ask that you sign and return it along with the third page parent response form. Grade
JK to Eight Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences are being scheduled for the evening of Thursday,
December 3rd and Friday, December 4th which is also a P. A. Day (no classes for students). A
letter will soon be sent home to all families requesting preferred conference times. We will coordinate
the conference schedule for families with more than one child and confirm a time as soon as possible.
